From: Donald Nguyen; MD, FAAP
Subject: Event at Sinclair Community College on Tuesday Jan. 5th

In 2012, you may have seen me on MSNBC, CNN, Fox News, PBS, or C-Span during the National Democratic Convention in Charlotte, NC, wearing my favorite tee with the logo "Patients Over Politics".

I was a Delegate at the National Democratic Convention casting my vote for nominating President Obama for a second term. When I was not in the convention hall as a delegate, I was part of the Doctors for America Patients Over Politics Bus Tour, spreading the word on health care reform and Medicaid Expansion outside the front doors of the Convention Center, both in Tampa, where the Republican National Convention was, and in Charlotte, NC. It was a year to remember and reflect on the work, tears, and sacrifice from so many of us, to preserve what had been achieved and gained in the historic fight for the Affordable Care Act. We fought to expand health coverage to more Americans, especially to the working poor and the ones with pre-existing medical conditions that had been discriminated against for too long.

Fast forward to today, 2015, where, again, we are facing the same great obstacles, defending against the dark and evil pressures from those who are dead set on destroying and rolling back all that has been achieved in health reform. The newly elected Governor of Kentucky already has stopped all promotional efforts of Kynect, the Medicaid website designed for enrolling patients onto the Medicaid programs for adult Kentuckians and all enrollment information sharing has been stopped at his order. He now intends to change Medicaid into a cost sharing/deductible type of plan and as a consequence, risk dropping tens of thousands of patients that are too poor to participate. We have Medicaid expansion in Ohio, but similar efforts at making health access more difficult are in motion, by virtue of proposals of co-pays, co-premiums mandates for Medicaid patients being signed into law by Governor Kasich. These Medicaid ruled are yet to be approved by CMS and the Department of Health Human and Services but these intentions from the Republican Ohio lawmakers are clear and present. As a health care provider and someone who is fighting on the morally correct side of patients, I will continue to plow on and will be dedicated to this mission, as long as I am breathing and involved in health care. It suffices to say that retaining the White House, continuing with President Obama's legacy, and preserving and advancing health care reform are the most pressing and crucial priorities in 2016.

This coming week, on Tuesday January 5th, in building 12, at Sinclair Community College, downtown Dayton, OH, the Democratic local delegate selection caucus will occur and I have declared to be running for the 10th Congressional District Democratic Delegate. There will be 2 men and 2 women, in the true spirit of inclusiveness, and 1 alternate, to be chosen to represent the 10th District at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, Pa, in 2016. The caucus attendees (you, my friends or anyone living in Montgomery or Greene counties and who are a registered voter) will vote for me or others. Depending on who you support, Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders, the audience will be divided into 2 camps accordingly, and you will cast a vote for who you want to be a delegate, me or someone else. I will be supporting Hillary Clinton. I hope that you will come to Sinclair College and participate in this fun but important process of caucusing. Doors are open at 6:00PM and the vote starts promptly at 7:00PM. The process should not take more than 1.5 hrs or even less.

I hope you will cast your vote for me, and I can then proudly wear my "Patients Over Politics" tee once more. If you cannot come to the caucus, please share this email to your friends and relatives who might enjoy participating in a democratic caucus exercise and invite them to vote for the Nguyen-ner!!

With regards, and Happy New Year!
