Subject: The Misuse of Convenience

THE MISUSE OF CONVENIENCE

In our society, we are force fed with various words, phrases, scenarios, parameters, etc.  These words, associated with action tend to be bureaucratically acceptable at different junctures associated with its usage.  From a grammatical perspective, that is a good thing in that it allows for flexibility and maneuverability.  Take the word convenience.  It is believed that it is convenient that the laws that "are on the books" will help in the implementation of safety for our communities and neighborhoods.  With the atrocities that we have been inundated with in our society with some law officers killing African Americans one by one, with the outcomes we have seen it becomes a convenience for some law departments and our judicial system to write it off as "they felt threatened", so it is justified.  This is the misuse of convenience.  The design factor associated with no grocery stores, retail outlets, and other commodities of necessity in our African American and low income minority communities, is a convenience that drives us to spend our dollars for necessities in other communities and municipalities.  This is the misuse of convenience.  The design factor associated with our State and Federal bureaucracies to dement and twist the academic as well as our economic vehicles, where our babies are denied the proper educational components as well as those dollars conducive to their growth and provision, is a convenience for making those who have wealth to get wealthier!  This is the misuse of convenience.  We must unify and increase our trust for one another in order to voice loudly our disdain for these atrocities, and work to make the conveniences of life ordained by God convenient for ourselves!

Subject: food advertising to children and obesity rates

RWJF just released the information that in 2013, four out of five of foods advertised to children on TV were for products in the poorest nutritional category as defined by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). In 2009, more than a dozen major food and beverage companies launched the Children's Food and Beverage Advertising Initiative (CFBAI), pledging to advertise only healthier products to children. This study examines TV food advertising to children before and after the launch of CFBAI to assess whether companies were following their pledges and how much impact it was having.

Key Finding: The majority of all foods, ads, from CFAI members and non-members combined, were for unhealthy products in 2007 (79.4% of adds) and in 2013 (80.5% of ads).

New Report Reveals States with Highest Incidence of Obesity

A new report from the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index shows that the obesity rate in the United States is the highest since Gallup and Healthways began tracking and measuring well-being in 2008. According to the "Gallup-Healthways State of American Well-Being 2014 Obesity Rankings," the national incidence of obesity was 27.7 percent in 2014, up from 27.1 percent in 2013 and significantly above the 25.5 percent recorded in 2008.

Gallup also ranks states…Ohio ranks 47th (5th Quintile).
