Citizens for a Nuclear Free Iran

Last month, we alerted you that Iran had made SECRET side deals in the nuclear agreement. Some of the details have finally been uncovered:

Documents leaked to the Associated Press reveal secret side deals that allow Iran to use its own inspectors to investigate a site it has been accused of using to develop nuclear arms.

That's absurd. It's like Lance Armstrong conducting his own doping test.

With its long history of deception, can Iran really be trusted to inspect itself? Congress is preparing to vote on the nuclear agreement. They need know that this dangerous side deal is unacceptable before the vote.

Connect with your member of Congress or an undecided member on Facebook. Tell them to reject the bad Iran nuclear deal.

From: Brian Shankman, AIPAC Director of Regional Affairs and Development
Subject: Iran Update: August 24

As we enter the final days of August, our campaign to encourage a congressional vote of disapproval on the Iran deal has reached a decisive phase. There are dozens of members of Congress that we must reach out to and convince to oppose the deal. Therefore, it is essential that we continue to highlight the many dangerous consequences and alarming loopholes in this agreement, and we ask you to join us in actively making the case for a better deal. Please click here to call your members of Congress and urge them to oppose this deal.

Below are a few recent and noteworthy stories:

Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-PA): Iran Deal Increases Risk of War

Rep. Brendan Boyle, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the Middle East Subcommittee, wrote an op-ed announcing his opposition to the Iran deal on Sunday. He underscored that "partisan politics have no place when it comes to the national security of the United States." Rep. Boyle also articulated his concerns about the deal relative to the "massive sum" of Iranian sanctions relief, an inadequate inspections regime, and the fact that the agreement "merely delays" Iran's nuclear weapons quest.

New York Times Analysis: "Future Risks of an Iran Nuclear Deal"

In an analysis published over the weekend, journalists David Sanger and Michael Gordon discuss the detrimental repercussions of approving the proposed nuclear deal with Iran. The piece reiterates concerns about the duration of the deal, namely that "most of the significant constraints on Tehran's program lapse after 15 years — and, after that, Iran is free to produce uranium on an industrial scale." Sanger and Gordon refer to this timetable as "the most important and complex issue," while also highlighting the loopholes in the deal that would lead to America losing important leverage, retaining little ability to account for Iran's past nuclear work, and gaining insufficient access for inspectors at nuclear locations.

New Quinnipiac Poll: Voters in Key Swing States Oppose Deal 2-1

According to a new poll published by Quinnipiac University today, voters in Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania reject the proposed nuclear deal by a 2-1 margin. Share this new poll with your networks on Facebook and Twitter.

AIPAC Materials to Use & Share

Last week, AIPAC sent two new memos to congressional offices. One provides updates to last week's disturbing revelation about Iranian self-inspections at its Parchin military facility. Click here to read this memo, and share it on Facebook and Twitter. The second memo highlights numerous instances of troubling Iranian behavior since the deal was reached. You can access this memo by clicking here, and share it on Facebook and Twitter.

In addition, this new one-page analysis showcases four historical examples of nuclear disarmament. In these cases, countries took meaningful action and proved a sincere desire to dismantle their nuclear programs, which Iran has failed to do and which is not a requirement of Iran under the proposed deal. AIPAC sent this to all congressional offices this afternoon.

I will be in touch later in the week with another update.

Subject: Iran update (please read)

Diplomacy or war—that's the choice Congress has when it comes to the nuclear deal with Iran.

Republicans have already lined up on the side of war. We need Democrats to stand strong with President Obama to keep Republicans from killing this deal and putting us on a path to an entirely avoidable war.

Tomorrow, August 26, anti-war Americans will be gathering at congressional offices across the country to support diplomacy over war.

Can you join Daily Kos readers and other anti-war Americans near you to call on your member of Congress to support diplomacy?

Can't join? Chip in $5 to support the campaign.
