Dunbar Literary Circle
Father's Day

Sunday, June 12 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm
House tours at 1 pm; light refreshments follow.

"It doesn't matter who my father was," Anne Sexton once wrote, "it matters who I remember he was." That memory-of the enormous, perhaps protective, perhaps absent, often mythic man-looms large in poems about fathers.

During the month of June our literary circle will celebrate fathers' day.

Originally slated for the third Sunday of June our Literary Circle is back on track to our second Sunday of the month schedule.

So join us on June 12th and
come to our Dunbar Literary Circle as we celebrate father's day with poetry and short stories -- read your own poetry or a poem by your favorite poet or writer or simply listen and enjoy.

The Paul Laurence Dunbar House Historic Site is located at 219 Paul Laurence Dunbar Street, Dayton, Ohio. Please enter through the Visitor Center entrance on Edison Street (around the corner from the Dunbar House).

Tours of the home are free and available from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (last tour at 3:30 pm). For more information call 937.224.7061.

The Dunbar Literary Circle meets on the second Sunday of the month.

Each month we touch on a different topic.

Just ahead: July 10 - Freedom

"U.S. Park Police Aviation and the Air Florida, Flight 90 Rescue"

By Donald W. Usher on June 17 at 7:00 pm
The Engineers Club of Dayton,
110 East Monument Avenue, Dayton, Ohio

Join the National Park Service for an hour-long presentation on aviation's role in visitor and resource protection in and around national parks. The Aviation Unit of the United States Park Police began in April 1973 with a Bell 206B Jet Ranger, known as Eagle 1, and a staff of three pilots and three rescue technicians. Today the fleet has expanded to four choppers and 24 hour coverage. Their mission includes aviation support for law enforcement, medevac, search and rescue, high-risk prisoner transport, and presidential and dignitary security. Donald Usher, former pilot of the Eagle 1, earned national commendation for his role in the rescue response after Air Florida flight 90 crashed into the Potomac River in 1982. Don's law enforcement career with the federal government spans five decades.

For more information, call (937) 225-7705 or go online at www.nps.gov/daav. This event is free and open to the public

Subject: PEACE DAYton June Update

The United Nations theme for International Day of Peace, 2016, is "The Sustainable Development Goals: Building Blocks for Peace." The United Nations Goals for 2030 are an opportunity for everyone to find purpose: schools, governments, service groups, faith-based, recreational organizations, arts, safety and security, and commerce (i.e. PEACE DAYton).

How will the Dayton Region respond?

With Unity. Look at what's happening for our community-wide celebration this September... From celebrity keynotes by authors Marianne Williamson and Capt. Paul Chappell to honoring our veterans and local peace heroes,  the entire Dayton Region is leveraging International Day of Peace to build the UNITY it takes to actually accomplish a sustainable peace for our children.
