Subject: URGENT Rally Saturday

Rally for Planned Parenthood & Women's Healthcare
Saturday, February 11 from 10:00am-11:00am
Courthouse Square in Dayton

Show your support for Planned Parenthood on February 11 as anti-choice  groups that want to defund this essential organization hold protests throughout the country, including in Dayton. Let's make it clear to politicians and opposition alike that the majority --7 in 10 voters -- appreciate  the multitude of services provided by Planned Parenthood, including birth control, screenings for breast and cervical cancer, testing and treatment of STDs, education programs and more. Millions of women and men depend on these services,  especially the low-income and young, with 1 in 5 women using Planned Parenthood at least once in her lifetime.

If you have a positive message about how PP helped you in the past that you would like to share, please contact
daytonwomen@yahoo.com  We would like to include these testimonials at the rally.

Please share & invite your friends on Facebook:
Rally for Planned Parenthood & Women's Health

Valerie Lee's Note: Dayton Women's Rights Alliance will be holding a Rally for Planned Parenthood and Women's Healthcare next Saturday, February 11from 10:00am-11:00am at Courthouse Square in Dayton.  We are holding this rally to show that Planned Parenthood is supported by a majority of people in our country on a day when anti-abortion forces will be protesting outside Planned Parenthood clinics in Dayton and throughout the nation. We want politicians  to know, especially those that want to defund PP, that we, the majority, appreciate PP's multitude of health services that are so essential, especially to low-income and young women.  If you have a positive message aboaut how PP helped you in the past that you would like to share, please let me know -- thanks, Joy

Subject: Region 7 Organizing Meeting

Anyone who is interested in helping to organize the movement for single payer in Ohio is invited to an organizing meeting for our region. The meeting will be on Sunday February 12th at 3pm. Though there has been a surplus of frustrating news as of late, I am emboldened by the swelling of support and excitement around single payer. We have many upcoming events in region 7 to plan and will be starting to prepare for the state conference in April as well.

The meeting will be at 3pm at our house (517 McLain St, Dayton, 45403).  If anyone has activities or topics that they would like to talk about please let me know or just bring them to the meeting. We will have coffee/refreshments. Please feel free to invite anyone else who may be interested in helping to organize as we build this movement!

It came to my attention that the previous link was in very small font and many folks could not read it.
So this is a much better link for those who require reading glasses.
http://www.mydaytondailynews.com/news/opinion/what-trump-should-really-fix-health-care/omCRT9N2HVPwXN4PD3ur4J/
Dr. Arthur Lavin from Cleveland, OH coined the term
"High deductible is now the new pre-existing condition" and I agree totally.
I also plainly call it
"The Scam of the Century"!

-----Original Message-----
Friends, colleagues, and Ohio DFA family:

In today's Dayton Daily News, my Op-Ed piece on how President Trump can try to fix the health care system by tackling this huge issue in delivering health care, instead of repealing the Affordable Care Act.

ttp://digital.olivesoftware.com/Olive/APA/Cox/sharedpages/SharedView.Page.aspx?sk=614E3F64&href=DDN%2F2017%2F02%2F01&page=9

You may have to increase the size of the page to read better, because DDN has a really strange way not to allow non-subscribers to access the articles in print.
Enjoy, and don't be shy to email back any comments.
As you may be aware, Doctors for America continues to fight hard to improve the Affordable Care Act and in the coming days, we may see a "replacement plan" from Congress surface and be certain that DFA along with other health reform experts will weigh in and analyze these ideas with a fine tooth comb.
Stay tuned, and there is no time to curl up in a fetal position!

Subject: FW: Ombudsman Office Weekly Update 2-03-2017

Your Ombudsman Office opened a dozen cases on City of Dayton Water service, the Auditor's Office, Children's Services, Food Stamps, Medicaid and the Social Security Administration for households in Dayton, Germantown, Huber Heights, Kettering and Miami Township.

This week we had the opportunity to bring some relief and peace of mind to a stepfather whose daughter is a ward of the state and is living in a group home.  The young woman is being moved to a program out of town, and the stepfather and mother were worried they would loose contact and that the progress the young woman is making in improving her life would cease.  We asked for a review of the transfer by the agency, which resulted in a discussion by all involved which restored confidence and hope in the future.

An additional 25 households received brief assistance or completed referrals about Dayton Police, Children's Services, Medicaid eligibility, HUD, the Social Security Administration, the Community Action Partnership, emergency assistance services, housing, legal services, the BWC, the ODA, and the Ohio Department of Insurance.  These inquiring households are from Brookville, Dayton, Harrison Township, Kettering, Miami Township, Trotwood, and Vandalia.

This week we assisted a woman with an application for Medicaid which had been pending since October due primarily to changes in caseworkers at an agency.  We got involved to advocate for her needs for medical coverage and she now has the coverage she sought.

Our Long-Term Care Ombudsmen opened cases in two facilities on failure to respond to complaints; weight loss due to inadequate nutrition; dehydration, and unwanted discharges.  Our staff participated in 6 surveys of the Ohio Department of Health by providing information about the valid complaints we have investigated in those facilities.

One of our interns is conducting a satisfaction survey for our work with government complaints.  Over 95% of those contacted reported they were satisfied with the outcome of their case, and 100% said they would recommend the Ombudsman Office to others.  Nearly all those responding reported that they learned about our office from family or friends.  If you do not need our help, please pass along our information to someone who does!

Facebook Weekly Update: January 30, 2017 – February 3, 2017 "Mom's Child Care Benefit Restored "

A mother contacted the Ombudsman because her benefit supporting her child care was terminated by the Montgomery County Department of Job and Family Services (MCDJFS).  The mother believed that she had submitted the application and the documentation required, and so she did not understand why the benefits were terminated.  The child care provider had also contacted the MCDJFS in an effort to assist the family.  The provider had finally notified the mother that she could no longer provide child care to the family without being paid for the service, which led the mother to turn to the Ombudsman for assistance.

Families must submit documentation that they participating in an activity which requires them to have child care in order to receive the benefit.  In this case, the agency did not have the mother's proof of employment in order to process the continuation of the child care. The mother submitted her previous 30 days proof of employment income and the continuation of her child care benefit was approved.

The Ombudsman Column, a production of the Joint Office of Citizens' Complaints, summarizes selected problems that citizens have had with government services, schools and nursing homes in the Dayton area. Contact the Ombudsman by writing to the Beerman Building, 11 W. Monument Avenue, Suite 606, Dayton 45402, or telephone (937) 223-4613, or by electronic mail at
ombudsman@daytonombudsman.org or like us on Facebook at "Dayton Ombudsman Office."

NCCJ partners with Sinclair Community College to Address
Employer Needs for Fostering Diverse Workforce

http://files.constantcontact.com/f904821c001/9e2b5fd9-7ff6-474c-b34c-5976f8135275.jpg

A new partnership between Sinclair College and the National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ) of Greater Dayton aims to help organizations and businesses succeed by developing and offering learning engagements designed to improve recruitment, reach a wider customer base, and promote a culture of workplace inclusion among employees.

Studies have shown that businesses that embrace and implement a culture of inclusion and diversity have a higher ability to secure top talent, eventually leading to financial returns that are well above national averages. These businesses are able to recruit and retain their workforce more effectively, and are more successful in growing their customer base. New training programs from Sinclair and NCCJ will help area businesses to examine their own workplace needs and provide resources necessary for creating and benefitting from a culture of inclusion.

"Through this partnership, Sinclair and NCCJ are actively addressing our region's businesses and organizations needs for learning engagements that make them more competitive, sustainable, and innovative," said Deb Norris, Senior Vice President of Sinclair Workforce Development. "We are very excited for this opportunity to work closely with NCCJ to build programs that reflect the diverse makeup of our community and advance economic growth throughout the region."

The collaboration will open pathways for Sinclair and NCCJ to focus on programs and courses accredited through the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET). Sinclair is accredited through IACET to provide Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for the successful completion of approved training programs. Two IACET accredited programs, Diversity Skills for Today's Workplace and Multicultural Communications, have already been approved for scheduling.

"We are very pleased to be partnering with Sinclair to provide training and resources that benefit our community and work to create an inclusive environment for all," Mary Tyler, Executive Director for the NCCJ. "The data that's been coming out has been clear that when organizations make a conscious effort to work toward creating an inclusive workplace that values the contributions from a diverse group of employees, it is more likely to be successful."

Sinclair and NCCJ will be hosting a free breakfast briefing examining the vital role inclusion plays in today's high-performing organizations on Tuesday, February 14, at the Sinclair Conference Center. To register, email
workforcedevelopment@sinclair.edu
