Subject: Special offer for community groups from Five Rivers MetroPark

As a proud resident of McPherson Town and an employee of Five Rivers MetroParks, I wanted to pass along a holiday offer from MetroParks for community groups. Can you please pass this along to your neighborhoods? They are welcome to print in their neighborhood newsletters, emails or social media groups.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spice up your holiday or winter get-together with a group visit to RiverScape MetroPark! The MetroParks Ice Rink is great for school field trips, office outings, family outings, kids' parties, club activities, church socials and more. Rink Rentals are available on Sunday and Thursday evenings from 6-8 PM throughout the rink season (Nov. 27, 2015-Feb. 28, 2016).

Your group will receive exclusive use of the rink, 50 pairs of skates and 50 cups of hot chocolate. This package typically sells for $300, but Five Rivers MetroParks would like to offer a limited-time discount to community groups to SAVE 10% from now until December 15, 2015.

Just use promo code EARLYGROUP in the checkout process. Reserve online now to get your preferred date!

Groups of 10 or more also save $1 on admission per person during open skate hours! Groups of more than 30 are asked to call the rink ahead at (937) 278-2607 with the date and hours you plan to be at the rink and an approximate headcount. Paying as a group saves you time at the register, giving you more time to skate!

From: S. Michael Murphy II; Program Manager of Refugee Resettlement, Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley
Subject: Thank you from CSSMV Refugee Resettlement

We at the CSSMV Refugee Resettlement Program wanted to send out a quick thank you email for your partnership and your ongoing support.

When refugees first arrive to the U.S. they are supported by a 90 day Federal stipend – for Dayton that is ($1,125.00), state social service assistance (RCA, TANF, EBT), as well as local donation support from community groups and non profit organizations. As refugees acculturate and assimilate they become less and less dependent on social systems and as we have seen in the local community many have an entrepreneurial spirit and start small businesses adding to the local economy.  The State Department spent over $3 billion to assist and process refugees overseas in fiscal 2015 (including through grants to the U.N.) and to settle refugees in the U.S. however the Obama administration actually requested some $600 million less for migration and refugee assistance this fiscal year (FY 16) than it did last year.  The federal stipend ($1,125) that resettlement agencies receive are what the State Department allocates to cover 30 to 90 days of furnished housing, food, and seasonal clothing, this is called the Reception and Placement period. It is with positive and productive partnerships that community groups and non profit organizations provide both direct and indirect client's services and public/private donations that truly allows for the comprehensive resettlement services of resettlement agencies.  The refugee profile is so very diverse, with people that are very well-educated that often speak multiple languages being resettled with just as many if not more that lack the education or English skills they need to acculturate quickly or compete in the local labor markets. CSSMV Refugee Resettlement Program is able to provide the exceptional services that we do largely impart to our community partnerships; from the grass roots level of individuals and families working one on one with clients, and social and faith based community groups providing both indirect and direct service, to corporations providing employment opportunities and partnerships. It is through the positive relationships with the Dayton Police Department, Montgomery County Public Health, Refugee Ministry at Christ the King Anglican Church; we have city of Dayton support via the Human Relations Council and Welcome Dayton, social service support from Miami Valley Fair Housing, and Montgomery County Department of Job and Family Services. This is but a small number of a very long list of amazing individuals, groups, and organizations that on a daily basis provided exceptional service in supporting the foreign born populations in the greater Dayton community.  We at CSSMV refugee resettlement program are so humbled and appreciative of the generous spirit of service and care that is provided in partnerships and as good neighbors to Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley but more importantly to the refugee community. Once again the CSSMV Refugee Resettlement Program wants to thank you all for your continued support and participation in this ongoing response to humanitarian crisis and for the clients and communities we serve. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly for further information or question regarding any and or all of the resettlement programming that we provide.

To donate items and support refugees as they move toward their resettlement goals, please call 937-223-7217 ext. 4297  or email development@cssmv.org for more information

Celebrate with us Nov. 18:

Recognizing businesses, organizations
who make Salem Beautiful

On Nov. 18, help us recognize people, businesses and organizations who have invested more than $30 million and countless hours of professional and volunteer work to make Salem Beautiful in 2015. We'll recognize more than 20 groups who have started or expanded a business, improved a property or conducted a beautification project. We'll see and hear about major improvements by Grandview Medical Center, Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton MetroLibrary, and the Salem Community Garden, as well as community projects and business starts.

We appreciate your
RSVP for the Nov. 18 SABA luncheon ($15) at the Miami Valley Golf Club, 3311 Salem Ave., Dayton.
Contact
larry.d.ramey@gmail.com. Come as early as 11:45 for this special lunch, as the meeting will begin shortly after Noon.

Nov. 18 at 4 p.m.
Dedication of Richard C. Holbrooke Plaza
at the Salem Avenue Bridge

The community is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Dayton Peace Accords with events from Nov. 18-21 at multiple sites in and around Dayton. The kickoff of this celebration is a dedication of the newly built Ambassador Richard C. Holbrooke Plaza at Salem Avenue and Edwin C. Moses Boulevard, at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 18. Among the dignitaries present will be Kati Marton, Richard Holbrooke's widow, the Mayor and other City Officials.

Dedication of the Salem Avenue Bridge as the Richard C. Holbrooke Memorial Bridge was the result of Commissioner Matt Joseph and the City of Dayton's commitment  to memorialize Ambassador Holbrooke for his Peace Efforts and the Dayton Peace Accords. The bridge serves as the gateway to the Salem Avenue Peace Corridor.

We invite you to join in celebrating the Richard Holbrooke Plaza, which symbolizes this series of historic events that have helped shape the world, the nation, Dayton and Salem Avenue.
