Dayton Unit NAACP Announces
Honorary Chairs and Keynote Speaker For 100th Anniversary
DAYTON, OHIO - OCTOBER 16, 2015 – The Dayton Unit of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will celebrate its Centennial (100th Anniversary) of providing Civil and Human Rights Services during its 64th Annual Freedom Fund Banquet to be held on Friday, October 23, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. at the Dayton Convention Center. This year we are privileged to have the Honorable Eric H. Kearney, Esq., American Politician and Entrepreneur, as the Keynote Speaker. Plan to attend the President's Reception immediately following the banquet in Room #103 of the convention center as it is free and open to the public.
"It is an honor to have Ms. Colleen Ryan, President of Vectren Energy Delivery of Ohio and Mr. Doug A. Fecher, President / CEO of Wright-Patt Credit Union to serve as the Honorary Chairs at this year's banquet, said Derrick L. Foward, President of the Dayton Unit NAACP. Under their leadership, both companies they respectively lead have been long-time supporters of the Dayton Unit NAACP, said Foward." "We appreciate their unfailing contributions and support, said Lu Dale, Chair of the Dayton Unit NAACP Freedom Fund Committee. It's an honor to have the Honorable Eric H. Kearney, Esq., Civil Rights Baby-Boomer, to serve as our keynote speaker, said Dale."
"Vectren is proud to support the efforts of the Dayton Unit NAACP in their strong advocacy for Civil and Human Rights in our community, said Colleen Ryan, President of Vectren Energy Delivery of Ohio. As President of Vectren Energy Delivery of Ohio, I am particularly humbled and pleased to co-chair the 64th Annual Freedom Fund Banquet, along with my friend Doug Fecher, President/CEO of Wright-Patt Credit Union. What makes this year's celebration so special is that it marks a major milestone for the Dayton Unit NAACP -- 100 years of service throughout the Dayton Region and Montgomery County. Congratulations to President Foward and his team on this achievement! I am also pleased to welcome the Honorable Eric H. Kearney, Esq, to Dayton as the keynote speaker and thank him for his demonstrated commitment to Ohio while serving as a state Senator. I look forward to seeing community leaders and friends join us on Oct 23rd for this historic event, said Ryan."
"On behalf of the Board of Directors, members, and employees of Wright-Patt Credit Union, my wife Kelle and I are honored to be part of this grand celebration of civil rights in the great city of Dayton, Ohio, said Doug Fecher, President/CEO of Wright-Patt Credit Union. The Dayton Unit NAACP is one of the oldest and most respected civil rights organizations in the entire country, with over 100 years of exemplary service to the citizens of our region. We are particularly thrilled to celebrate with the Honorable Eric H. Kearney, Esq., our keynote speaker for the evening, and Colleen Ryan, our friend and Co-Chair for this event. It is with gratitude that we recognize the countless contributions made by President Foward and all leaders of the Dayton Unit NAACP, past and present, who have tirelessly championed the cause of freedom and equality for all. This will be a night to remember ... and we can't wait, said Fecher!"
"When you support the Dayton Unit NAACP, you are supporting the 3rd largest Unit in the State of Ohio; a Littlejohn Junior Youth Council (Ages 1-13) that has been educated on how to conduct a formal business meeting, learned how to follow parliamentary procedures, learned the meaning of community service and has witnessed real life court cases in action; a Dayton Youth Council (Ages 14-20) that has distinguished itself as one of the premier youth groups in Greater Dayton Metropolitan Area as well as has shown exemplary leadership skills throughout our community; an ACT-SO Youth Group (High School Students) that has worked tirelessly for the past nine years to bring to the City of Dayton; Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals at the National level in various areas of competition; and most importantly you are supporting this year's theme entitled, "Unshackle Freedom…Pursuing Liberty in the Face of Injustice," said Foward".
Founded in 1915, the Dayton Unit of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is the city's oldest and largest nonpartisan civil rights organization. Its members throughout the Dayton Region and Montgomery County are the premier advocates for civil rights in their communities. Their core goals are to Inform, Educate and Empower the Citizenry as they pursue justice and equality for all Americans.

Dayton Takes Lead on Integration with Other Cities
through "Welcoming Communities" Effort
The White House Task Force on New Americans has launched the Building Welcoming Communities Campaign to encourage local communities to engage in local immigrant and refugee integration efforts, in partnership with Welcoming America. The President is calling on local communities to act on a set of principles to build inclusive, welcoming communities that allow all residents to thrive and advance integration efforts in three core areas: civic, economic, and linguistic integration.
Dayton is among the 40 early acceptor cities and counties that have signed on to the campaign. The campaign will help better connect federal resources with local communities in order to expand immigrant integration efforts. It calls on local communities to commit to and act on a set of principles that focus on building inclusive communities that enable all residents to thrive, while advancing immigrant civic, linguistic and economic integration.

Resource of the Month: Scam-Spotting
People who've recently arrived in the U.S. have a lot of adjustments to make. For many refugees and immigrants, understanding how to avoid fraud isn't high on the list - until a scam finds a recent arrival.
That's why the Federal Trade Commission has created new materials and a handbook to help refugees and immigrants spot, avoid and report scams. Share these resources with your newest neighbors to ensure they can protect themselves from scams.

Subject: You live in Ohio. Has your member of Congress heard from you yet?
The pro-corporate, anti-democratic Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement has been finalized—and is now headed to Congress for a climactic, final up-or-down vote.
Will you call your House member today, and urge them to reject the TPP? You can use the phone number and script below.
Rep. Michael Turner
(202) 225-6465
My name is __________, and I am a constituent of Representative __________. I am urging you to vote NO on the Trans-Pacific Partnership, which was negotiated in secret by large corporations—and will offshore jobs, lower wages and endanger environmental protections. As your constituent, I will remember this in 2016.
After having made this phone call, please click here to fill out our feedback form.
Can't make a phone call? Please click here to send an email to your House member.
The TPP was negotiated in secret with big corporations at the table, but Congress and the American people were locked out. It covers 40% of global trade that will offshore jobs, lower wages and endanger environmental protections.
