Dear Miami Valley Residents,

This Saturday, the Greater Miami Valley Computer Science Circle (GMVCSC), with students, parents, and faculty from all over the Greater Dayton area, will have its first official meeting this Saturday October 3 at 10:30am in Room 170 of the Mathematical and Microbiological Sciences (MM) Building on the main campus of Wright State University. Topics for this year include: an introduction to problem solving, computational science education, iteration, recursion, sorting, dividing and conquering, parallelism, hacking, cryptography, security, and more. For more information on Saturday's session, please see the included flyer.

Additionally, as many of you are aware, the Greater Miami Valley Math Circle (GMVMC) is now in its second year and has three groups: Beginning (Grades 5-7), Intermediate (Grades 7-9) and Advanced (Grades 9-12 plus successful completion of Algebra I or the equivalent). The circle has almost 50 students from all three groups and is off to a great start this year.

If your child is interested in joining one of our circles, if you know of a child who would be interested in one of our circles, or if you are interested in helping with them or giving a talk/workshop, please email me at
munsup.seoh@wright.edu.

Last year, we offered the American Mathematics Contest (AMC) 8th Grade Test from the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) to our circle members. This year, we want to offer the opportunity to everyone. The test will be given on Saturday November 21 at 10:30am in the MM Building. Check-in will begin at 9:30am. There will be a $5.00 test fee for each student. Register online at http://iis.stat.wright.edu/GMVMC.High/Events/default.html. After registering online, to complete the registration, you must mail $5.00 check, payable to GMVMC, to this address:

Subject: Montgomery Co. Infant Mortality Community Meeting - Monday, October 5, 2015

Dear Montgomery County Community Leaders,

I would like to invite you to a community meeting to address the high rate of infant mortality in the Montgomery County area. In Montgomery County, and communities across Ohio, too many infants do not live to see their first birthday.  In partnership with the five Medicaid managed care providers and local leaders, Ohio Medicaid is seeking to work with the community in Montgomery County to combat infant mortality. Together, we have an opportunity to tackle this issue head–on by seeking valuable input from community leaders.

The event will be held on Monday, October 5th  from 1:30 pm until 3:30 pm at the Mt. Enon Family Life Center located at 1501 W. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Way in Dayton. Please RSVP by noon on Friday,  October 2nd and direct any questions to Ohio Medicaid's Infant Mortality Project Manager, Traci Bell-Thomas, at 614-752-4887 or via email at traci.bell-thomas@medicaid.ohio.gov.

Due to limited space and our hope of facilitating a constructive dialogue, this invitation is non-transferrable and is intended just for you. However, please contact Traci in the event you are unable to attend and would like to send a proxy.  I hope that you are willing to join us as we work to reverse this trend and improve health outcomes for mothers and children in our communities.

Subject: Greene Co Resource Job Fair 10/6

On Tuesday October 6th from 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. we are planning to hold the Greene County One Stop Shop Resource Job Fair in the Media Room at 541 Ledbetter Rd. Xenia, Ohio (flyer attached). The event is open to the public and provides a great opportunity for people to connect with community resources available for our clients and employers who are willing to hire ex-offenders. Professionals who work with Greene County residents can learn more about area organizations for referral and networking purposes and many have clients who can benefit from these services.

Job seekers who attend will need to come prepared with copies of their resumes and dressed for success. Transportation for our clients from the courthouse can be arranged for the event. Please refer clients to me if they need assistance preparing a resume or need transportation for that day.
