Seeds of Peace – Harvest of Love

Greater Dayton Season for Nonviolence

A Season for Nonviolence, is a national 64-day educational, media, and grassroots campaign dedicated to demonstrating that nonviolence is a powerful way to heal, transform, and empower our lives and our communities. Inspired by the memorial anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., this international event honors their vision for a nonviolent world.

https://www.facebook.com/DaytonMlkPeaceBridge/  The Season will be hosted on this page where activities and daily inspirations will be posted. We encourage the community to post their responses to the "food for thought" daily postings, and the lessons we can learn from your faith communities and leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Martin Luther King Cesar E. Chavez, and President Nelson Mandela, as well as living legends such as His Holiness, Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet.

Please use https://www.facebook.com/DaytonMlkPeaceBridge/ to share events hosted by your group/faith community/organization within the framework of the Season for Nonviolence as well as those specifically addressing Islamophobia.  Bring your favorite quote to share at the Opening Event for the Season for Nonviolence.

The Opening Event for the Season for Nonviolence will be held Saturday January 30th in the banquet room at China Garden Buffet Restaurant, 112 Woodman Dr. in the Airway Shopping Center with food service from 4-5 pm.  Please come and enjoy the food, fellowship and making of new friends.  From 5-6:30 pm we will gather to create and explore activities to build stronger communities that celebrate our diversity and humanity.  The purchase of food and beverages are not required to attend, however you cannot share your buffet meal with someone who has not purchased a buffet meal.  Note* a 15% gratuity will be automatically added to your bill.  The cost of a buffet meal is $11.59 with drinks other than water are $1.89.

Being the example of the change we want to experience!

SEASON FOR NON-VIOLENCE ~ requests for community-wide participation.

We invite you to join with us in celebrating the legacies of both Dr. King and Gandhi in the 64 days from January 30 to April 4.

As a continuation of Dr King's vision of creating a World House/Beloved Community, and Gandhi's philosophy of universal acceptance and peace, the Season for Non-Violence Committee will offer an opening session on Saturday, January 30 beginning at 4:00pm at the China Garden in the Airway Shopping Center (call Colette Harrison 937-274-7009 or Jim Hagan 937-750-4730 for details).

https://www.facebook.com/DaytonMlkPeaceBridge/  The season will be hosted on this page where activities and daily inspirations will be posted. We encourage and welcome the community to post their responses to the "food for thought" daily postings, and the lessons we can learn in this regard from their faith communities and various secular leaders.

We already have plans for a morning program on Compassion with the Great Discussions group will be held at the Dayton Peace Museum (unless we need a bigger venue) on Friday Feb 5 from 10:00 – 11:30am (an RSVP is essential, and requested at the phone/email below).  We are also anticipating the showing and discussion of a number of documentary and other films, in addition to the ones planned by the Human Relations Council in Black History Month's Friday night movie & discussion series (check their website for details).

It would be wonderful if the days in between the opening and closing could be filled with community/cultural events, dialogues, workshops, film/discussions, and the arts – all designed to connect hearts and open minds to celebrate the rich tapestry the greater Dayton area embodies. If you have an event planned or would like to discuss possible event ideas, or host an event planned by others, please contact me as soon as possible.

We are looking for individuals, faith/community groups and other organizations that plan to present programs promoting peacekeeping, community building, and cultural appreciations much needed expressions of harmony in our neighborhoods as we seek to develop greater community cohesion here in the greater Dayton area. Our "beloved community" has already made great strides toward the creation of the World House envisioned by Dr Martin Luther King, Jr. as we continue through Welcome Dayton to count people from an increasing number of countries living in our midst. That said, there is still much distrust of those who may look different, sound different, dress differently, and perhaps worship differently as well.

Lastly, save the date(s) as we are planning a multi-faith musical program on Sunday, April 3 (3 – 6pm), and a closing dialogue session on Monday, April 4 (5:30 – 7:00pm) and will keep everyone posted via emails and our Facebook page.

Community of Greater Dayton At-Large
Re: Unity, Support, and Open Candid Dialogue
To My Fellow Brothers and Sisters of Life

Because we are in dire straits in more ways than one with the tools of demonic proportions winning out, there are those of us who feel that we need to come together in a different style and flavored venue.  A venue that will be along the line of a town hall but with an open and candid dialogue of compassion and love for one another and our communities!  We primarily will be coming together to discuss the need to support the pillar of the community Don Black, and the Dayton Weekly News.  However, we want this venue and dialogue to be without organizational ties, no titles, and other hats.  The opportunity of this dialogue facilitated by Tyronne Muhammad, Lynn Brinson and David K. Greer, will give us the needed mechanism to not only help to develop the drive to help the DWN through a unified effort of unity but to create the springboard we need to manifest love for one another.  The component of love and togetherness towards those other barriers and roadblocks of equality, can be defeated by our commitment of unity.  But we must start with ourselves and with something as viable as the DWN as the vehicle and tool in the accomplishment of this!  Come one come all, those who are communicating on Face Book with viable concepts and issues; those who are communicating on Messenger with that vim and vigor, come and direct your energies towards a viable initiative conducive to placing the African American communities in its rightful position of growth and prosperity, through this unified effort to achieve success by helping the only Black owned newspaper in our City to survive and grow!  Its survival and growth is the survival and growth of the African American demographics and history.
