Turning Point USA's Professor Watchlist: Can you believe this shit??  Launched, earlier this week, by Turning Point USA, an Ultra Right Wing millennials' organization founded by a boyish neofascist named Charkie Kirk, Professor Watchlist is both a perfect addendum to the Age of Trump, as well as an ideal throwback to Germany's Nazi Era of the 1930s.   Oy!!!

Ironically, as Americans commemorate how Native Americans helped save the Pilgrims in 1621, Indian-rights activists

Sophia Wilansky is fighting to save her arm after being attacked so brutally by Morton County officers at Standing Rock on Sunday night that she faces a possible amputation. She asked us to remember this is not about her, but about the indigenous people of our country.

Hundreds of tribal nations stand with the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe to fiercely protect the Missouri River from contamination by the Dakota Access pipeline. They have been attacked by dogs, shot by rubber bullets, blasted with water in freezing temperatures, tear gassed and more. Law enforcement is willfully endangering their lives to protect oil profits while people suffer.

Call the Army Corps of Engineers and tell them pull the permits for DAPL and stop this project before someone is killed. Here are the numbers and a sample script:

Army Corps of Engineers phone numbers:
     Main: 202-761-0011, press 9
     Regulatory (permits) office: 202-761-5903

Hello, my name is ________. I'm calling from {city, state, county}. It is your duty to pull the permits for the Dakota Access pipeline immediately. Police are violently attacking peaceful water protectors, putting their lives in danger by blasting them with water cannons in freezing cold weather. You must stop this pipeline now. It is dangerous in the long term, but right now, this very second it is a threat to the lives at Standing Rock.

After your call, fill out this form to tell us how the call went. Tell us how the Army Corps responds to your calls.

As you prepare to observe (or not observe) the Thanksgiving holiday, please don't forget about the original people of this land. Indigenous people are putting their lives on the line to protect the land stolen from them, the water they drink, and their sacred sites.

The least we can do is stand with them, and call on the Army Corps of Engineers.

Subject: President David Hecker and MEA President Steven Cook respond to selection of Betsy DeVos as U.S. Secretary of Education

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LANSING — The selection of Betsy DeVos to serve as U.S. Secretary of Education is an affront to students and education professionals in Michigan, according to the leaders of Michigan's school employee unions, the American Federation of Teachers Michigan and the Michigan Education Association.

DeVos brings no credible experience or expertise in education, but rather has pushed for the privatization and dismantling of public education at every turn. She rejects evidence, research and the experiences of front-line educators in pursuit of policy changes that only serve to profit billionaires.

"In Michigan, we know firsthand how disastrous DeVos' ideology is, as she has spent decades wielding her family's money and influence to destroy public education and turn our schools and students over to for-profit corporations," said MEA President Steven Cook.

In 2000, DeVos led a failed effort to use public funding for private schools, which was soundly rejected by Michigan voters. Since then, she has pushed to eliminate restrictions on the growth of for-profit charter schools and has resisted every attempt to hold these corporations accountable for the tax dollars they take from public schools.

"Policies she's supported – increasing standardized testing and punishing teachers, students, and families – have done nothing to improve education," said AFT Michigan President David Hecker. "In fact, DeVos policies have consistently left our most vulnerable students behind."

The DeVos family's billions have bought their influence in Michigan politics and Michigan school policy for decades. Donald Trump's appointment of Betsy DeVos signals he is not actually interested in changing politics as usual, but is instead perpetuating a pay-to-play scheme. Students, educators, and families across the country will be paying the price.

AFT Michigan and MEA have fought corporate-backed education reform and the DeVos family's ideology and money for decades. We will continue to stand up for Michigan's education professionals and the students they serve.

What you should know about Betsy DeVos, Trump's education secretary pick

This story was originally published on Chalkbeat.org.President-elect Donald Trump has reportedly tapped Michigan philanthropist Betsy DeVos to be his education secretary."I am honored to work with the President-elect on his vision to make American education great again," DeVos tweeted Wednesday. "The status quo in ed is not acceptable."DeVos, an advocate for school vouchers, has chaired the Michigan Republican party and played a key role in some major education policy decisions there in recent years. But unlike former D.C. schools chief Michelle Rhee and charter-school leader Eva Moskowitz, two others Trump considered for the education secretary position, DeVos has kept a relatively low national profile. She has neither worked in public education nor chosen public schools for her own children, who attended private Christian schools.

Subject: Trump meets with prominent anti-immigration lawyer with ties to hate group

President-elect Donald Trump met with Kris Kobach, a meeting that suggests Trump will fulfill his anti-immigrant campaign promises.

We've followed Kobach's work for some time. For many years he served as a lawyer for the Federation for American Immigration Reform, which we've named as a hate group since 2007 because of its long history of ties to white supremacists and eugenicists. He has been the Kansas Secretary of State since 2011, where he has aggressively sought to undermine voting rights.

He's also the architect of Arizona's notorious "papers, please" law and similar statutes around the country that encouraged the racial profiling of Latinos. Almost all of the provisions of those laws were struck down as unconstitutional.

Reportedly, Trump had already worked with Kobach before this meeting. During the campaign, Kobach claimed that he helped write Trump's border wall plan. More recently, he has said that he's advising the transition team.

Please read our profile of Kobach. He is someone we all need to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.

·         Here's what you should know about Stephen Bannon.

·         Read our latest newsletter.

From: Alex Hart; Online Team, PFAW
Subject: Oppose racists in the cabinet AND White House (Bannon)

THANK YOU so much for adding your name to our petition opposing the confirmation of Jeff Sessions as Attorney General.

Sessions has a record of bigotry and hostility to civil rights that would make him very dangerous as the head of the Justice Department, but Trump's naming of Stephen Bannon as his chief strategist is also tremendously dangerous.

Bannon is a leader of the so-called Alt-Right white nationalist movement and someone who has shown a history of racism, antisemitism and misogyny. And while we CANNOT have bigots leading critical government agencies like the DOJ, we also can't have them just a few offices down from the president.

So, there's another petition we urgently need you to sign:

Please add your name to tell Republicans in Congress they must SPEAK OUT and use any influence they have to keep Bannon out of the White House>>

Earlier message:

In case there was any lingering doubt that he would bring the extremism and bigotry that defined his campaign into the White House, President-elect Donald Trump announced this week that he would appoint Stephen Bannon, the former Breitbart chairman who has become a vocal promoter of the white nationalist "alt-right" movement, as his chief strategist -- a position Trump's team says will be equal to the Chief of Staff.

As surreal as it may seem, there's no denying it: our future president has picked someone who proudly provided a platform for racist, anti-Semitic, misogynistic and white nationalist rhetoric to help lead his administration.

This is not the time for progressives to idly wait for something to change. We must speak up and take action. And with outrage at Bannon's appointment coming from across the political spectrum, right now taking action means pressuring other Republicans to use their influence to stop it.

Tell Republicans in Congress: We're holding you accountable
to do everything in your power to keep Bannon out of the White House>>

sign the petition

At Right Wing Watch, we've been monitoring and reporting on Bannon and the white nationalist movement whose profile he has helped elevate for years, so we know first-hand just how dangerous and frankly horrifying the prospect of him in the White House really is.

Republicans may have won last Tuesday night, but the next four years will test the party's unity and message. If Republicans want to save the GOP from becoming the White Nationalist Party, they need to take action now. And we need to make sure they know that we're paying attention.

Donald Trump and his White House team are trying frantically to project competency and composure, but it's clear that they are unprepared to take over. That means that Republicans now have the opportunity to influence Trump's administration in a way they couldn't during the election -- and may not be able to again.

Tell Republicans: Stay on the right side of history and speak out against Trump's appointment of Steve Bannon before it's too late!

While it's easy to feel hopeless right now, it's never been more important for us to step up and take action. Together we can and will fight back!

Subject: An update for Munsup from JVP

These last ten days have been busy.  We've been having intense discussions among our staff, board members, allies, and member leaders about what our priorities are going to be in this new era. We still have a lot to figure out, but the way forward is starting to become more clear.

The full consequences of the election will play out over years, not weeks. Heading into the holiday weekend--when some of us will be finding comfort among loved ones, some of us will be facing family members whose values may seem antithetical to our own, and some may not be celebrating at all--I wanted to give you some updates about our current thinking, and ways that you can start to take action.

  • We exist to fight racism in Israel/Palestine, so we're ready to fight the normalization of racism here in the U.S.

We already know how to fight racist governments -- because that's what we do in Israel/Palestine. We're committed to BDS, a strategic, long-term, focused strategy for grassroots resistance to governments that refuse to act on their own, and refusing to normalize bigotry and oppression. In the face of similar conditions here in the United States, we can't back down from BDS, and our support for peace and justice in Israel/Palestine -- we have to double down.

What can you do? Our friend and ally Issa Amro, a Palestinian human rights activist, is on trial this week in an Israeli military court, which virtually guarantees his conviction. We need Secretary of State John Kerry to raise his case with the Israeli government -- click here to sign the petition.

  • We have to fight Islamophobia

There was a crisis of Islamophobia in this country before the election, but now it's intensifying. We're hearing terrifying reports from across the country of Muslims being victimized and targeted at even higher rates than normal. So it's on us to fight Islamophobia, both in our communities and in utterly unacceptable policies that have already been proposed such as registration programs for Muslims. But the first step, even before Trump becomes President, is to be highly visible in our cities and towns saying we won't let this pass.

What can you do? JVP chapters from coast to coast are canvassing in their neighborhoods, giving out highly visible anti-Islamophobia materials through our Network Against Islamophobia and making it clear that we'll fight with and for the safety and rights of Muslims in this country. Go to JVP.org/NAI to download materials and find out more.

  • We have to win over Jewish communities -- and if we can't, we have to build our own

We've been taking the fight to Jewish institutions that refuse to condemn Trump's embrace of white nationalism, embodied by his appointment of Steven Bannon. Our grassroots petition to #StopBannon has over 35,000 signatures and 100 organizations who have signed on in support. But it's not just about Bannon -- this is an opportunity to challenge institutions that insist on supporting Israel at the cost of ignoring antisemitism, and an opportunity to convince Jews that if they are horrified by Trump's proposals they should be taking a serious look at Israel's too. And since these institutions are doing a truly lousy job of representing us we need to build an alternative model--one where we can fight Islamophobia and antisemitism and criticize Israel all at the same time.

What can you do? Sign our petition to #StopBannon. If you've already signed, call the Jewish Federations of North America and demand they condemn him. If you've called already, call again. And if you want to see what a beautiful justice-centred Jewish community really looks like, we'll be hosting livestreamed Shabbat services -- watch out for more information coming soon.

  • We have to talk to more and different people about our values

I know how easy it is to get stuck in our echo chambers, and to only reach out to those who already share our values and analysis. But there's never been a more important time to make the case for what we believe in, even when it's hard. So whether it's your Trump voting uncle, your liberal Zionist cousin, or your anti-BDS roommate, the time is now to speak up.

What can you do? It's not enough for those of us who are supporting the Water Protectors at Standing Rock or Movement for Black Lives organizers to proclaim our solidarity on social media--we need to do the hard work of making the case to our loved ones. Download our updated Conversation Guide for tips and talking points about how to bring justice and anti-racism to your holiday table.

  • We have to get trained and organized

There's one thing that's giving me real hope in this moment: millions of people are coming off the sidelines to oppose Trump and fight the seriously scary white nationalist movement that he has empowered. And at JVP, we're ready to equip our members with skills, tools and analysis to organize, fight, and win.

What can you do? We're developing a free online curriculum to equip us for the fights ahead -- the Ready to Fight virtual training series. Click here to find out more and sign up.

  • We have to come together

In March of next year, about halfway through Trump's first hundred days, we'll be gathering together in Chicago at our National Member Meeting to build community and strategize the future of our movement. Our NMM was important before November 8th, but now the urgency is even greater. Will I see you there? Click here to RSVP.

I know I've asked a lot of you -- but this moment demands nothing less of all of us. As our regional organizer Alana Krivo Kaufman recently wrote, "our work for justice in Palestine and commitments to be a part of the visionary progressive movements in our own communities are more vital than ever. We need each other. We need vision. We need art. We need strategy. We need history. We need reflection. We need planning. We need praying. We need this community."

So we have a few days off now, but then it's back to work.

Because we're in this fight for the long-haul, and the stakes are way too high to back down now.

It takes time, people power, and also money to make the change we need. Will you help JVP get even stronger?

Steve Bannon must be removed from his position immediately. Add your name to denounce President-elect Trump's pick of Steve Bannon.

President-elect Trump recently picked Steve Bannon as his senior advisor. Bannon has a long history of promoting anti-Semitic, racist, misogynistic and dangerous views that embolden white nationalists.

This man doesn't belong anywhere near the White House, let alone working in the West Wing.

Steve Bannon must be removed from his position immediately. Add your name to denounce President-elect Trump's pick of Steve Bannon.

Bannon is the former head of Breitbart News. These are just a few things that happened during his tenure:

  • The website featured stories such as "Hoist It High and Proud: The Confederate Flag Proclaims a Glorious Heritage"; "Gay rights have made us dumber, it's time to get back in the closest"; and "Birth Control Makes Women Unattractive and Crazy."
  • He created a section on the website called "Black Crime."
  • They called former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords (who was shot in the head during a public event in 2011) "the gun control movement's human shield."

Glenn Beck even said Bannon "is a nightmare" who "wants to burn it down." When you are too extreme for Glenn Beck, there is a problem.

Steve Bannon's rhetoric has emboldened the alt-right and made Americans feel threatened.

From: Progressive Turnout Project
Subject: Trump STOLE the 2016 election (sign this petition!)

BREAKING: Nationwide voting restrictions prevented MILLIONS from voting

Sign our petition urging Congress to take immediate action to restore the Voting Rights Act:

The 2016 election was the first Presidential Election in 50 years without the Voting Rights Act.

After the Supreme Court gutted basic protections to our innate right to vote, Republicans set to work guaranteeing that Democratic-leaning voters wouldn't be able to cast their ballots.

And it worked.

A shocking new report analyzing this year's election revealed widespread and significant voting problems across the country.[1]

WISCONSIN: 300,000 registered voters lacked the photo ID necessary to cast their ballots.

Trump won Wisconsin by only 27,000 votes.

NORTH CAROLINA: 158 fewer polling locations in 40 predominantly African American districts.

African American turnout decreased by 16% in North Carolina.

These voting problems are the DIRECT result of the Supreme Court gutting the Voting Rights Act in 2013. Since then, the Court has allowed states to pass their own election rules without federal approval.

And predictably, budgets were slashed and urban neighborhoods that consistently vote Democratic were hit significantly harder than rural, Republican-leaning areas.

That's why we're calling on Congress to restore the Voting Rights Act, so everyone has the opportunity to participate in our Democracy:

This November was one of the most consequential elections in modern history.

And Republican elected officials managed to steal it -- and elect one of the most unqualified Presidents in U.S. history -- by suppressing the Democratic vote.

We cannot afford to let this happen again.

Voting is one of the most fundamental components of a healthy democracy. And unless Congress restores the Voting Rights Act, millions of Americans will continue to be robbed of this basic right.

We're collecting 25,000 signatures to DEMAND Congress restore the Voting Rights Act immediately. Will you sign on?
