The 2016 Central State University Theater Season continues on November 18 - 19, when Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992 – Rodney King and the LA Riots is presented in the Robeson Auditorium located in Paul Robeson Cultural & Performing Arts Center at 7:30pm. Subject: [DAWN] Demo

Daytonians Against War Now (DAWN) will be sponsoring a demonstration this Saturday, November 19, at 1pm at the corner of Siebenthaler and Salem.

I know many of us were devastated by the election of Trump. Unfortunately, this is our reality. But it is also our reality that we can bring our message to the people of the United States [or at least the Dayton area] that we oppose continued military aggression by the government of the United States.

So join us and let your voices be heard.

From: Ladies Interfaith
Subject: Women's Interfaith Discussion

With all optimism that our small attempt to learn and understand each other can make a difference in this uncertain time, we're happy to invite you to this year's  third Women's Interfaith Discussion!

We will be back to our mid-day time of 11 am to 1pm on Wednesday, Dec. 7th, and we will meet at Temple Israel, home to Dayton's original Reform Jewish congregation.  The Reform Jewish movement was the first to ordain women, and Temple Israel just installed its first female Senior Rabbi.

Our topic  this time:  Salvation and the Afterlife.  This topic was suggested twice, and seems to be one of the burning questions we have about each others' faiths.  Hopefully we'll learn a little bit, get to tour the Temple, see the Torah scrolls, and enjoy the company of those new friends and now-familiar faces.

Please bring a friend with you - or attend yourself if you haven't done so yet.  So far, the discussions have been lively, and questions flow. Feel free to share the flyer below, especially if you are in a leadership role and can reach those who might be interested. We always appreciate an RSVP (ladiesinterfaith@gmail.com) if you know you can attend.

Warm greetings from us,

Bushra Shahid Ahmadiyya Muslim Community
Phyllis Pavlofsky Allen Jewish Community
Jeanette Buehler Christian Community

92.1 WROU Begins Annual Holiday Help Out Food Drive,
Helping to Feed Families for the Holidays

DAYTON, OH - November 9th, 2016   Dayton’s R&B Leader, 92.1 WROU, is excited to continue its long tradition of community involvement with the announcement of the 2016 Holiday Help Out Food Drive, to benefit Good Neighbor House and sponsored by TYRO.

Through the 20th of November, listeners are invited to help us help others by dropping off non-perishable food items and personal care products any time of day or night at any Trotwood fire station. Donations of all types are appreciated, but during this holiday season the Good Neighbor House pantry is in particular need of canned goods (especially beans), pasta & pasta sauce, and soups.

Then, beginning on November 18th at 10am, the real fun begins. WROU’s own Faith Daniels will begin broadcasting live from inside the Trotwood Fire & Rescue Station located at 5469 Little Richmond Rd, living at the firehouse for the entire weekend to collect food and greet listeners! Live broadcasts will continue daily through 10am on November 20th. Because the firehouse is open 24 hours a day, listeners will be able to drop off food and supplies any time of day or night…without even having to leave their cars.

WROU Program Director and air personality Faith Daniels notes “WROU is truly blessed to have the opportunity to produce this event, but it would not be possible without the involvement of our community partners the Good Neighbor House, the City of Trotwood & Mayor Mary McDonald, the Trotwood fire houses & collection sites, and support from our sponsor TYRO.”

From: Diane Welborn; Ombudsman, The Ombudsman Office
Subject: Ombudsman Office Weekly Update November 11, 2016

Dear Members of the Ombudsman Office Board of Directors, Elected Officials and Colleagues;

The Ombudsman Office staff opened a dozen cases this week on the City of Dayton Water Department, services provided by the homeless system, Food Stamps, Medicaid and Greater Dayton Premier Management for residents of Brookville, Harrison Township, Huber Height and Miamisburg.

We provided brief assistance or information to an additional twenty households regarding City of Dayton Inspection services, the Mediation Center, Municipal Court Escrow process, HUD, legal services, the Attorney General’s Office, the Ohio Medical Board, and the Ohio Department of Insurance.  These households are in Brookville, Dayton, Harrison Township, Miamisburg and Trotwood.

This week we were instruments in assisting an 84 year old mother who is caring for her disabled adult son.  His Medicaid coverage had been interrupted due to a computer glitch, and we intervened to have the coverage restored.  We also intervened to assist a man in who was told he owed $224 in back rent for failing to report income he received as a baby sitter.  The man lives in housing where his rent is tied to his income.  We facilitated a meeting with the property manager so the man and the mother of the baby clarified that he only sat for the child a few days.  The back due rent was removed.

Our Long-Term Care staff opened cases in five area nursing facilities on complaints about unresponsive staff; unwanted discharges; inadequate care plans; and physical abuse.  We participated in six surveys by the Ohio Department of Health by providing them information about the complaints we have handles in the facilities they are surveying.

Please find below is our weekly column:

Weekly Update: November 7 - November 11, 2016      “Woman’s parking issue resolved”

The Ombudsman received a telephone complaint from a woman who was trying to assist her mother in obtaining a handicapped parking place in from of her home.  The mother lives in an older part of town and she does not have a driveway.  The mother frequently has to park a block or more from her home because there are no parking places available near her home.  The daughter reported that she submitted the applications, medical statements, and information from the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.  The daughter reported that she has made many calls to inquire about the status of processing the request, but she did not get the names of the staff persons she has spoken with.

The Ombudsman contacted the city department responsible for traffic engineering to inquire about the application.  The Ombudsman received a return call from a supervisor who stated that the installment paperwork had been completed and that the handicapped parking sign would be installed by the end of the week.   The mother called at the end of the week to report that the sign was up, and that she was grateful for the assistance.

The Ombudsman Column, a production of the Joint Office of Citizens’ Complaints, summarizes selected problems that citizens have had with government services, schools and nursing homes in the Dayton area. Contact the Ombudsman by writing to the Beerman Building, 11 W. Monument Avenue, Suite 606, Dayton 45402, or telephone (937) 223-4613, or by electronic mail at ombudsman@dayton-ombudsman.org or like us on Facebook at “Dayton Ombudsman Office.”
