Today's minimum wage of $7.25 an hour is a starvation wage. We need to raise that to a living wage, because anyone who works 40 hours a week shouldn't live in poverty.

I've introduced a bill in Congress to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour.
Add your name to say you support a $15 minimum wage.

The simple truth is that working people cannot survive on $7.25 an hour. Yet more than 30 million people work every day for a minimum wage that is totally inadequate to provide for their families.

Some of those folks shared with our campaign what a living wage would mean for them, and I am honored to share some of their stories with you:

"I could afford to go back to work if minimum wage was $15. It costs my family less for me to stay home than to pay childcare and transportation costs to work for $9.50/hr." - Elizabeth in Ohio

"A $15 minimum wage would mean that my daughter and I could finally stop living paycheck to paycheck." - Jamie in California

"It would make me happy to know the people serving me in restaurants and working in other businesses I patronize are being paid at a higher level that may help them get ahead." - Patricia in Indiana

"As a single mother of two, a $15 minimum wage would mean being able to sleep at night instead of spending countless sleepless hours worrying about how I'm going to keep a roof over my childrens' heads and food on the table...and maybe even be able to keep more than $5 in my savings account." - Nichole in California

"I could pay my bills, get health insurance, save for a car, and groceries...I can barely afford bills at the moment and once the bills are paid, no money is left over for anything else." - Hilary in Florida

"Right now I am making $9.50 an hour. Unfortunately, this is the highest paying job I have ever had and it still is not enough to help me become stable. I was forced to move back in with my mother, which is causing her stress as well because she has to still take care of me after she has already raised 8 children. I feel like a burden and that I should be out on my own, but I'm not. I would be so happy and so content if the minimum wage was raised to $15 in all 50 states! It would mean a new beginning to my life as well as a good start to my mother worrying less." - Abbigail in Wisconsin

"A $15 minimum wage would mean that my daughter and I could finally stop living paycheck to paycheck." - Jamie in California

"As a small business owner, I believe I would benefit from a larger number of Americans feeling secure in their homes and knowing that they will have enough food for their families. I want to live in a country where we all make enough money to meet not just our basic subsistence needs, but also our need for happiness." - Lauren in Iowa

"I could stop living paycheck to paycheck!" - Sally in South Carolina

"I currently work two jobs and go to college full time and I can't afford my own home. I have medical bills that I pay monthly that don't leave me with enough to get by. If the minimum wage were to be raised to $15 an hour, I would not have to work nights and days just to make ends meet. I have a girlfriend, we would like to start a family, but because of finances, this is out of the question." - Eric in Oklahoma

"It would make my life a hell of a lot better." - Sophia in Louisiana

I hope that it is clear how dire it is for millions of people working full time yet living in poverty. We have a moral obligation to help them.

Subject: Evil triumphed Tuesday night

Evil triumphed last night in New Hampshire, because the Republicans simply didn't have the courage to do the right thing. Donald Trump has created real momentum for his dark movement. That's why now, more than ever, we cannot be silent and lose sight of our values.

Mike Honda knows this better than most. After living in an internment camp as a child, he became an advocate for justice and equality. His voice is sorely needed right now in Washington as the voices of darkness rise in the Republican Party. Can you help us keep Mike Honda in Congress?

Stand up for justice and equality by giving $10 to our campaign today:

The sad part is that it isn't just Donald Trump. Yes, he wants to ban Muslims from entering the United States, but it is Marco Rubio who wants to shut down mosques. Jeb Bush and Chris Christie are the ones who want to keep women and orphans fleeing terrorism from coming to our country. Ted Cruz is the one, and you can look this up, talking about which countries he wants to carpet bomb. These are not caricatures. These are real people and real policies they're proposing, and it is beyond disappointing and disturbing to see.

We have to look inside ourselves as a country this election and challenge the darkness once more. It's time to look fear in the eye and defeat it.

If you agree, make a contribution to Mike Honda today — he is the only candidate in this race with the courage to take on the hateful and bigoted rhetoric that is rising in the Republican Party right now.

Subject: Flint crisis goes from bad to worse

Newly obtained internal emails show that Michigan Governor Rick Snyder's staff knew last March about a spike in Legionnaires' disease—which has since killed nine people—in Genesee County, home to Flint. But it wasn't until last month that the governor first informed the public about the surge in the deadly pneumonia-like disease, which corresponds to the switch of Flint's drinking water to the Flint River.1

The internal emails show that the governor's staff stonewalled county officials who were trying to address the "significant and urgent public health issue."2 This scandal comes in addition to the entire city of Flint being poisoned by lead—a man-made crisis that the governor helped create, then also ignored and concealed.

Flint is a majority Black, majority low-income city, and race is at the heart of this crisis. As Bernie Sanders said during Thursday night's Democratic presidential debate, "One wonders if this were a white suburban community, what kind of response there would have been."3

Even now that it's in the media spotlight and the FBI has joined the criminal investigation, the governor still has yet to replace a single lead pipe in Flint.4

We need to keep the spotlight on what's happened in Flint—to hold Gov. Snyder accountable and to seek justice for the people of Flint. One way to help is to keep circulating news and analysis about the whole disaster.

The situation in Flint was so bad and so obviously wrong that yellow-colored water even flowed out of faucets in hospitals.5

Yet Flint is run by the state, because Gov. Snyder stripped elected city leaders of their authority several years earlier when he pushed through the state's emergency management law over the objections of voters. City officials were powerless to act.6

The governor and his administration recklessly ignored, dismissed, and concealed an outbreak of a deadly disease—and then evidence of lead poisoning—month after month after month, all the while telling residents that the water was safe to drink.

And of course, it's not just Flint. As the national Black Lives Matter Network recently noted, "Black people in America—especially those living in rural and poor areas—have long been denied the same access to clean drinking water and water for bathing and sanitation as everyone else."7

Please read and share Michael Moore's "10 Things They Won't Tell You about the Flint Water Tragedy. But I Will," so together we can be armed with the information needed to hold Gov. Snyder accountable.

Right now, I am headed to a hearing on Capitol Hill to represent the hundreds of doctors, medical students and health advocates who have already raised their voices to call on Congress to take urgent action in the face of the unconscionable tragedy in Flint. But, I noticed your name is missing.

We know there is no time to waste to ensure the residents of Flint have access to clean water and the health care they need. And, we need to make sure Congress hears from us today.

Can I count on you to take two minutes to email Congress using this handy tool?

Subject: Sign the petition: Demand that Congress subpoena Michigan's governor now

On Wednesday, February 3, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform held a hearing to investigate the terrible decisions that led to the Flint, Michigan water crisis.

So far, the committee subpoenaed three federal and state officials, a Flint resident, and the researcher who exposed the cover-up of this man-made crisis. One name was conspicuously absent--Governor Rick Snyder, whose woeful mismanagement of state agencies and emergency managers exposed an entire city to lead poison.

Governor Snyder has already admitted to failing Flint residents. Still, the Republican-led Oversight committee and chair Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) seem to be shielding Snyder from scrutiny for his role in the Flint water catastrophe.

Sign the petition: Demand the House Oversight Committee subpoena Governor Rick Snyder.

Governor Rick Snyder
appointed the emergency managers and gave them the power to override local government. Governor Snyder appointed the MDEQ director who buried evidence of elevated lead levels in the water.

Governor Snyder circumvented local leadership for years and now the Republican-controlled oversight committed is helping him wash his hands clean of all the controversy.

The 18 Democrats serving on the oversight committee signed a
letter demanding another hearing to subpoena Governor Snyder and all the emergency managers he appointed to govern Flint. To date, Republicans in the committee have ignored their requests and focused their investigation on the federal Environmental Protection Agency.

Sign the petition: Demand the House Oversight Committee subpoena Governor Rick Snyder.,

We're grateful Jimmy Carter is shining a bright light on the Republicans corrupting our political system,
so we're going to send him a card from End Citizens United supporters to thank him.
