From: Social Security Works On Behalf Of Ted Strickland
Subject: Social Security lifts us up

I've talked with people in every corner of Ohio, and again and again, I've heard stories of friends and family lifted up by the sense of decency and security that Social Security provides.

Right now, many seniors who have worked hard their entire life are struggling to make ends meet. The threat of falling home values and 401(k) packages means retirement security is a struggle for more and more Americans. Social Security is a life-saving promise we've made to our seniors.

As a U.S. Senator, I will always oppose efforts to increase the retirement age, cut benefits, and privatize Social Security. Instead, we must demand the Senate strengthen and expand Social Security - a program so crucial to the American dream.

Please join me and Social Security Works in calling on the U.S. Senate to expand, not cut Social Security.

My opponent Senator Rob Portman supports the privatization of Social Security. He wants to take the earned benefits that so many people rely on and hand them over to Wall Street. Senator Portman even favors raising the retirement age.

We need to protect Social Security from Rob Portman and his millionaire and billionaire Wall Street friends who would transform it into something less and break the promise we've made to our seniors.

Now more than ever, we must not only oppose all cuts to Social Security, but we must demand the Senate strengthen and expand it as well. Stand with me in demanding the U.S. Senate protect and expand Social Security - a program that is so essential to America.

Thank you for standing up.

Stop Trump

The election is only 26 days away. That's how long we have to make sure that Donald Trump, the racist, misogynistic and fascist Republican candidate never sees the inside of the White House or gets his hand on our country's nuclear codes.

All of us need to take action.

We know that neighbors talking to neighbors is by far the most effective way to increase voter turnout. This is why we are inviting you to join our friends at the Working America Coalition, who have put together a great, on-the-ground voter-engagement program in Dayton.

Can you join a phone bank on Saturday, Oct. 15 in Dayton? Click here to RSVP.

What: Phone Bank in Dayton
When: Saturday, Oct. 15 at 10 a.m.
Where: IBEW Local 82 Hall, 6550 Poe Ave, Dayton

When you RSVP, an organizer will get in touch with you to confirm your attendance and let you know any new developments or details. RSVPing is important, and helps our friends at Working America know how many people to be ready for. Click here to RSVP.

This isn't just about Trump. In order to ensure that we have the best opportunity to successfully advocate for progressive policies in 2017 and beyond, it's crucial that we get as many voters as possible to cast their ballots by Nov. 8.

By volunteering to talk to people in your community, you can share the issues that matter to you most while making sure we stop Trump from becoming president.

The Dayton Philharmonic Presents:

Nature's Way
Friday, October 14, 2016 at 8:00pm
Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 8:00pm
Schuster Center

Join us at the Schuster Center during the height of autumn to celebrate the world of nature: whether it be nature as we see it—plants and animals, water and land—or nature as forces that we may or may not see—the building blocks of the cosmos.

To start the program, the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra and concertmaster Jessica Hung will perform one of the best-known compositions of Antonio Vivaldi. The Four Seasons is the collective name given to four separate violin concertos based on the seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter.

In Dumfries, Scotland, an architectural theorist, Charles Jencks, and his late wife, Maggie Keswick, an expert on Chinese gardens, designed what came to be called the Garden of Cosmic Speculation. This home of science as garden and vice versa inspired Gandolfi's 2009 work The Garden of Cosmic Speculation. With the garden and its theories as his muse, Gandolfi has created an energetic and innovative piece that never really allows the listener to predict what will be heard next.

We are lucky in the Miami Valley to experience all four of the seasons as well as nature and its forces . . . come revel in the beauty with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra!

Each Passport member is entitled to two FREE "C" level tickets for one of the performances. To reserve your tickets, call Ticket Center Stage at 937-228-3630 and provide your Passport number. Show your current Passport Card and photo identification when picking up tickets at the Ticket Center Stage box office or at the performance venue.

Gem City Ballet Presents:

Fall Repertory
Stuart Sebastian Performance Space

Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 8:00pm
Sunday, October 16, 2016 at 2:00pm
Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 8:00pm
Sunday, October 23, 2016 at 2:00pm

Gem City Ballet, the Miami Valley's premiere pre-professional ballet company, will open its 25th Anniversary Season with an exciting and fun-filled Fall Repertory Program. There are company favorites like Paquita Variations, which GCB has performed many times over its history, as well as new works.

Artistic Director, Barbara Pontecorvo, is bringing back Second Thoughts--a ballet she choreographed in 1987 while still Director of Dayton Ballet II. Sam Jones, a former Cincinnati Ballet dancer who has performed multiple times with GCB, is choreographing an ethereal, misty ballet challenging the GCB dancers in its partnering skills and movement quality, and former GCB alumni Erin Wheeler will be presenting a new ballet filled with imagery and imagination.

Finally, GCB will perform one of the first ballets Stuart Sebastian choreographed for Dayton Ballet--the hilarious Ballet a la Carte, with music by Gottshalk. This ballet is full of widely drawn characters, such as the very rich Grande Dame, the conniving Gigolo and his equal, the Gigolette, and the beautiful, flirty Coquette. Backed up a stuffy Maitre'd, two inexperienced junior waiters and three schoolgirls, the afternoon at the French cafe becomes very educational for all.

To purchase Buy One – Get One FREE tickets for Passport-eligible performances, call the Gem City Ballet at 937-550-9245. Show your current Passport Card when picking up tickets at the performance venue.  Each Passport Member is limited to two tickets.

With the vividness and brevity that are the hallmark of the verismo (realistic) style, Leoncavallo's masterwork quickly sweeps the audience along with its grand tunes and gut-punching heartbreak, climaxing in an onstage murder among the clown troupe as the players gradually veer from their script until the final tragedy occurs.
