Subject: Solidarity with Jewish Community after cemetery attacks.
On behalf of both of us as well as our respective faith communities, we would like to strongly condemn the heinous attacks of vandalism on Jewish cemeteries in Philadelphia as well as St. Louis.
Phyllis sent us a link to an article about the attack in Philadelphia which I am pasting below:
http://www.philly.com/philly/opinion/20170228_Letters__Cemetery_vandalism_an_indignity_for_us_all.html
An article about the St. Louis is below:

We all agree that graveyards are a place of prayer, peace and solace. It reminds one of death and afterlife, makes him draw a lesson from it and thus commit him to good deeds. For us muslims, visiting graves and graveyards refreshes one’s soul and helps to evoke supreme feelings in them. The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) stated: “Whoever visits me after I die, it is as if he visited me when I was alive.”
Visiting graves helps the strengthening of one’s relations with his past, religious culture and history. To vandalize or disrespect such a place is indeed a matter of shame not only in the eyes of Man but in the eyes of God as well. We thus express deep solidarity with our Jewish brothers and sisters. May God keep them, and all of us, safe from harm.
I am also attaching a press release that was sent out by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.

Subject: FW: Immigration Film Series --- Updated Schedule
The film A Better Life in UD's film series on immigration and immigrants, "Films without Borders" has been rescheduled for this coming Thursday.
By the way, the 10:30 end time is simply how long the particular space is reserved. So, for example, A Better Life is about 90 minutes. Then discussion will follow for however long people want to discuss.
The film was scheduled for St. Patrick's Day which is a Friday. Someone thought maybe it wouldn't be a good idea to have a film that evening. Plus the studio in ArtStreet in the heart of the student neighborhood will likely be closed and locked for security purposes. Hence the change.
Attached is a review and article by the director, both abbreviated to omit give-aways in the plot and incidental stuff to be able to fit on a double-sided one-page handout.
A Better Life | Thurs Mar 9 | Roesch Library Collab | Theo Majka, Hector Escobar |
The Letter | Fri Mar 10 | ArtStreet Studio B | Meaghan Crowley |
14: Dred Scott, Wong Kim Ark and Vanessa Lopez | Tue Mar 21 | Sears Recital Hall | Caroline Merithew |
Don’t Tell Anyone or American Dreamers | Tue Mar 28 | Sears Recital Hall | Karen Velasquez (Miranda also available) |

Free, hand-on journalism training offered to high school and college students
DAYTON — The Greater Dayton Association of Black Journalists is looking for the next generation of media professionals.
The organization of Miami Valley print, broadcast and online journalists is accepting applications for its completely interactive boot camp for students interested in careers in a wide range of journalism fields.
The boot camp for high school and college students will be from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22 in the Cox Media Center, 1611 South Main St., Dayton.
The application can be found at GDABJ.com.
“Participants will experience a taste of what it is like to be a journalist in our fast-moving world,” GDABJ president Amelia Robinson said. “Journalism is more important than ever.”
Though the workshop targets blacks, Asians, Hispanics and other minorities traditionally underrepresented in newsrooms, it is open to all.
GDABJ is committed to diversity and accepts students regardless of race or economic status.
This free, hands-on boot camp is designed for sophomores, juniors and seniors who attend Dayton and Springfield area public, private and parochial schools. College students are also welcome.
Using intensively interactive exercises, the camp turns area students into journalists for a day. For each session, students will take notes, ask questions, and at the end of the day, write stories and broadcast the news. Professional journalists from the local newspapers and television stations will coach them.
For additional information send email to GDABJ@aol.com or call Amelia Robinson at (937)225-2384. Applicants must reply by Wednesday, April 19, 2016 for consideration.
