April 4, 2017 is the 50th anniversary of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s speech Beyond Vietnam: A Time to Break Silence.

Groups around the country will be staging public readings of Dr. King's Vietnam speech. In confronting the deeply rooted racism, militarism, and materialism of the United States, Dr. King described the United States as the greatest purveyor of violence in the world.

Dr. King's historical speech was a turning point in the growth of the peace movement and the struggle to end the war in Vietnam. Today we are involved in new wars with no end in sight.

On Tuesday April 4th we are holding a public reading of Dr. King's speech to recognize his role in helping to end the war in Vietnam and to call for an end to our current wars.

Please join us.

We are looking for people to read sections of Dr. King's speech (attached).

Commemorating the Season for Nonviolence
&
MLK's "Beyond Vietnam" Speech

On April 4, 1967, in his "Beyond Vietnam" speech, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke of:

"A nation . . . approaching spiritual death"
"Our only hope [being] . . . our ability to recapture the revolutionary spirit . . ."
"[Shifting] from a 'thing-oriented' society to a 'person-oriented' society [in order to conquer] the giant triplets of racism, materialism, and militarism."

On April 4, 2017, the 50th anniversary of that speech and the date we close the 2017 Season for Nonviolence, we in the Dayton area meet to honor our wise, peace-promoting forebears and to dialogue about:

How we can work together to heal our nation's spirit—beginning with our own community
How we can support each other in recapturing the revolutionary spirit that emboldened our ancestors
Practical steps we in Dayton can take as we strive to become less racist, less materialistic, and less militaristic

WHO:  All are invited
WHAT: Communal sharing of food, dialogue/listening
WHEN: Tuesday April 4, 2017 5:30 – 7:30  (food at 5:00)

Dr. Seoh, Thank you for your assistance in promoting the 43rd Annual Womanline Auxiliary Luncheon. Copied below is the news article.

APRIL IN PARIS EVENT SUPPORTS ESSENTIAL SERVICES

This spring marks the 43rd year for a group of dedicated volunteers to honor the work of Womanline in our community at a Luncheon and Fashion Show. This year's theme is "April in Paris", and will be at the Presidential Banquet Center on April 29th, 2017.  This exciting event features entertainment by Edde Osborne, beautiful fashions by Magnolia's on Main in Springboro, wonderful raffle and table prizes, delicious food, and fellowship among friends.

This very special event allows us to highlight the partnership between Womanline and Family Services. This collaboration represents over 160 years of providing vital services for individuals and families. Both organizations work with victims of crime and trauma and other mental health disorders. "We are excited about the opportunity to work together to continue to be at the forefront of providing critical mental health services for the greater Miami Valley," states Bonnie Parish, Family Services Executive Director.

Advance reservations for the luncheon are required. All proceeds from this much anticipated annual event directly benefit the crucial services provided by Family Services and Womanline. Advertising and sponsorship opportunities are also available.  For additional information, call the office at 937-222-9481, extension 111
