A group of Ohio cities, led by Dayton, has filed lawsuits against the drug companies responsible for pushing opioids on our communities. The lawsuits state that these companies engaged in deceptive marketing practices that hid their knowledge that opioid use could lead to addiction -- and often targeted vulnerable and lucrative communities like veterans and the elderly.
These companies made billions while leaving Ohio's communities to deal with the devastating consequences. They need to pay -- by funding the programs we've had to create and expand to cope with the addiction crisis. Taxpayers don't deserve to foot the bill for their recklessness.

When the United States facilitated our adoptions, we were promised a better life as American citizens. Adopted as children by US citizen parents, an estimated 35,000 intercountry adoptees have grown up American but still lack U.S. citizenship.
In 2000, Congress determined that intercountry adoptees should automatically be granted US citizenship and the Childhood Citizenship Act was passed. When the law went into effect, adoptees who were age eighteen or older were denied the same automatic right.
We call on Congress to uphold the promise to adoptees by fixing the legal loophole and passing the Adoptee Citizenship Act allowing citizenship for all adoptees regardless of when they were born.

Black Lives Matter cashes in with $100 million from liberal foundations

For all its talk of being a street uprising, Black Lives Matter is increasingly awash in cash, raking in pledges of more than $100 million from liberal foundations and others eager to contribute to what has become the grant-making cause du jour.
The Ford Foundation and Borealis Philanthropy recently announced the formation of the Black-Led Movement Fund [BLMF], a six-year pooled donor campaign aimed at raising $100 million for the Movement for Black Lives coalition.
That funding comes in addition to more than $33 million in grants to the Black Lives Matter movement from top Democratic Party donor George Soros through his Open Society Foundations, as well as grant-making from the Center for American Progress.
"The BLMF provides grants, movement building resources, and technical assistance to organizations working advance the leadership and vision of young, Black, queer, feminists and immigrant leaders who are shaping and leading a national conversation about criminalization, policing and race in America," said the Borealis announcement.
In doing so, however, the foundations have aligned themselves with the staunch left-wing platform of the Movement for Black Lives, which unveiled a policy agenda shortly after the fund was announced accusing Israel of being an "apartheid state" guilty of "genocide."

Hacked Documents: Soros Funded Black Lives Matter
When George Soros's Open Society Foundations (OSF) was accused last year of funding Black Lives Matter (BLM), Ken Zimmerman, the director of U.S. programs at OSF, flatly denied it and claimed it was a fantastic rumor. "I can't really speculate on what leads to rumors, but it is wrong," he said, "I don't even know where one begins to reconstruct something like that." Early this week, hackers published documents which show that two months before Zimmerman's denial, the OSF board approved $650,000 to BLM.
DCLeaks.com — which claims to be run by the same hackers who leaked a trove of e-mails from the Democratic National Committee (DNC) — has published a 69-page report from OSF in which the Soros organization documents its plans to use the "unrest" following the death of Freddie Gray to "accelerate the dismantling of structural inequality generated and maintained by local law enforcement." The relevant portion of the report says:
The killing of Freddie Gray in April helped spawn weeks of peaceful protests by Baltimore residents and allies from the #BlackLivesMatter movement that were temporarily interrupted by a period of unrest that lasted less than 48 hours and resulted in some injuries and millions of dollars in property damage to neighborhood businesses. While many lamented the damage done, the overwhelming sentiment is that the uprising has catalyzed a paradigm shift in Baltimore that offers opportunities for major justice reforms.
In particular, recent events offer a unique opportunity to accelerate the dismantling of structural inequality generated and maintained by local law enforcement and to engage residents who have historically been disenfranchised in Baltimore City in shaping and monitoring reform. Building on our existing networks and programs, OSI-Baltimore will focus investments on: 1) creating a culture of accountability for policing in Baltimore, recognizing the pervasive racism, disrespect and lawlessness that gave rise to recent events; and 2) building the capacity of activists in Baltimore to demand and achieve immediate and long-term reforms.
Let's set aside for the moment that the report describes the looting, rioting, assaults, and arson which marked the very beginning of the "protests" over the death of Freddie Gray as "peaceful." Soros and his ilk must live in the world of George Orwell's 1984where war is peace and peace is war. As disconnected from reality as Soros and company may be, their agenda is clear: avoid the obvious and seize the "opportunity" to foment revolution. Later in that report, the allocation of nearly three-quarters of a million dollars was laid out in clear and plain language:
Recognizing the need for strategic assistance, the U.S. Programs Board approved $650,000 in Opportunities Fund support to invest in technical assistance and support for the groups at the core of the burgeoning #BlackLivesMatter movement.
The decision to bankroll the subversive and violent anti-police organization was approved "per board consensus" and appears to have had as its goal the shifting of political power. Another leaked document covers a later board meeting and praises the success of the plan:
Leaders of #BlackLivesMatter and The Movement for Black Lives worked to influence candidate platforms during the 2016 primary season. This came alongside the recent acknowledgement by political strategists that African-American voters may be much more pivotal to the 2016 general election than previously forecasted.
While BLM could have used that $650,000 to actually improve the lives of black residents of America's inner cities by initiating job training, educational, and violence prevention programs, the money was used for its intended purpose: the fomenting of more "unrest" in the form of violent "protests" that were little more that staged riots. And it has been successful in shifting political power. It has also, undoubtedly, fomented the war on police, leading to the deaths of police officers and the black citizens they work to protect.
While inner-city "black America" continues to slide into the abyss, BLM and its sugar-daddy, George Soros, are continuing to use that social decline to reshape America.

There is no "white supremacism" among Caucasian Americans. Their religion is the universal religion of Christianity that believes in loving everyone. Their political creed is that all men are created equal and are endowed by their creator with inalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We have to watch out that galactic subjects such as the IMX program never get even hinted at around Hillary. If she makes reference to IMX, this might cause serious problems for everyone concerned. It is doubted that it will ever get used but if it does, we hope the important sections of America's population are property vaccinated. The world has an overpopulation problem, true, but IMX is not the answer. The Dietrick people and those of the neoCons who know about it will be disappointed because curbing the rampant ambitions of the PRC is one of their goals but that game ain't worth the candle, believe me!

In an email from John Podesta to Huma Abedin, the pair discuss diverting Clinton campaign funds to various Republicans who were running against Donald Trump in the primaries. Let me begin on a personal note. I am a 56-year-old, third-generation, African American Washingtonian who is a graduate of the D.C. public schools and who happens also to be a great admirer of Robert E. Lee's.
Today, Lee, who surrendered his troops to Gen. Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Court House 134 years ago, is under attack by people -- black and white -- who have incorrectly characterized him as a traitorous, slaveholding racist. He was recently besieged in Richmond by those opposed to having his portrait displayed prominently in a new park.
My first visit to Lee's former home, now Arlington National Cemetery, came when I was 12 years old, and it had a profound and lasting effect on me. Since then I have visited the cemetery hundreds of times searching for grave sites and conducting study tours for the Smithsonian Institution and various other groups interested in learning more about Lee and his family as well as many others buried at Arlington.
Lee's life story is in some ways the story of early America. He was born in 1807 to a loving mother, whom he adored. His relationship with his father, Henry "Light Horse Harry" Lee, (who was George Washington's chief of staff during the Revolutionary War) was strained at best. Thus, as he matured in years, Lee adopted Washington (who had died in 1799) as a father figure and patterned his life after him. Two of Lee's ancestors signed the Declaration of Independence, and his wife, Mary Custis, was George Washington's foster great-granddaughter.
Lee was a top-of-the-class graduate of West Point, a Mexican War hero and superintendent of West Point. I can think of no family for which the Union meant as much as it did for his.
But it is important to remember that the 13 colonies that became 13 states reserved for themselves a tremendous amount of political autonomy. In pre-Civil War America, most citizens' first loyalty went to their state and the local community in which they lived. Referring to the United States of America in the singular is a purely post-Civil War phenomenon.
All this should help explain why Lee declined command of the Union forces -- by Abraham Lincoln -- after the firing on Fort Sumter. After much agonizing, he resigned his commission in the Union army and became a Confederate commander, fighting in defense of Virginia, which at the outbreak of the war possessed the largest population of free blacks (more than 60,000) of any Southern state.
Lee never owned a single slave, because he felt that slavery was morally reprehensible. He even opposed secession. (His slaveholding was confined to the period when he managed the estate of his late father-in-law, who had willed eventual freedom for all of his slaves.)
Regarding the institution, it's useful to remember that slavery was not abolished in the nation's capital until April 1862, when the country was in the second year of the war. The final draft of the Emancipation Proclamation was not written until September 1862, to take effect the following Jan. 1, and it was intended to apply only to those slave states that had left the Union.
Lincoln's preeminent ally, Frederick Douglass, was deeply disturbed by these limitations but determined that it was necessary to suppress his disappointment and "take what we can get now and go for the rest later." The "rest" came after the war.
Martin Luther King Jr. was one of the few civil rights leaders who clearly understood that the era of the 1960s was a distant echo of the 1860s, and thus he read deeply into Civil War literature. He came to admire and respect Lee, and to this day, no member of his family, former associate or fellow activist that I know of has protested the fact that in Virginia Dr. King's birthday -- a federal holiday -- is officially celebrated as "Robert E. Lee-Stonewall Jackson-Martin Luther King Day."
Lee is memorialized with a statue in the U.S. Capitol and in stained glass in the Washington Cathedral.
It is indeed ironic that he has long been embraced by the city he fought against and yet has now encountered some degree of rejection in the city he fought for.
In any event, his most fitting memorial is in Lexington, Va.: a living institution where he spent his final five years. There the much-esteemed general metamorphosed into a teacher, becoming the president of small, debt-ridden Washington College, which now stands as the well-endowed Washington and Lee University.
It was in Lexington that he made a most poignant remark a few months before his death. "Before and during the War Between the States I was a Virginian," he said. "After the war I became an American."
I have been teaching college students for 30 years, and learned early in my career that the twin maladies of ignorance and misinformation are not incurable diseases. The antidote for them is simply to make a lifelong commitment to reading widely and deeply. I recommend it for anyone who would make judgment on figures from the past, including Robert E. Lee.

Conspiracy Theory

In the United States "conspiracy theory" is the name given to explanations that differ from those that serve the ruling oligarchy, the establishment or whatever we want to call those who set and control the agendas and the explanations that support the agendas.
The explanations imposed on us by the ruling class are themselves conspiracy theories. Moreover, they are conspiracy theories designed to hide the real conspiracy that our rulers are operating.
For example, the official explanation of 9/11 is a conspiracy theory. Some Muslims, mainly Saudi Arabians, delivered the greatest humiliation to a superpower since David slew Goliath. They outsmarted all 17 US intelligence agencies and those of NATO and Israel, the National Security Council, the Transportation Safety Administration, Air Traffic Control, and Dick Cheney, hijacked four US airliners on one morning, brought down three World Trade Center skyscrapers, destroyed that part of the Pentagon where research was underway into the missing $2.3 trillion, and caused the morons in Washington to blame Afghanistan instead of Saudi Arabia.
Clearly, the Saudia Arabians who humiliated Ameria were involved in a conspiracy to do so.
Is it a believable conspiracy?
The ability of a few young Muslim men to pull off such a feat is unbelievable. Such total failure of the US National Security State means that America was blindly vulnerable throughout the decades of Cold War with the Soviet Union. If such total failure of the National Security State had really occurred, the White House and Congress would have been screaming for an investigation. People would have been held accountable for the long chain of security failures that allowed the plot to succeed.
Instead, no one was even reprimanded, and the White House resisted all efforts for an investigation for a year. Finally, to shut up the 9/11 families, a 9/11 Commission was convened. The commission duly wrote down the government's story and that was the "investigation."
Moreover, there is no evidence to support the official conspiracy theory of 9/11. Indeed, all known evidence contradicts the official conspiracy theory.
For example, it is a proven fact that Building 7 came down at freefall acceleration, which means it was wired for demolition. Why was it wired for demolition? There is no official answer to this question.
It is the known evidence provided by scientists, architects, engineers, pilots, and the first responders who were in the twin towers and personally experienced the numerous explosions that brought down the towers that is described as a conspiracy theory.
The CIA introduced the term "conspiracy theory" into public discourse as part of its action plan to discredit skeptics of the Warren Commission report on the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Any explanation other than the one handed down, which is contradicted by all known evidence, was debunked as a conspiracy theory.
Conspiracy theories are the backbone of US foreign policy. For example, the George W. Bush regime was active in a conspiracy against Iraq and Saddam Hussein. The Bush regime created fake evidence of Iraqi "weapons of mass destruction," sold the false story to a gullible world and used it to destroy Iraq and murder its leader. Similarly, Gaddafi was a victim of an Obama/Hillary conspiracy to destroy Libya and murder Gaddafi. Assad of Syria and Iran were slated for the same treatment until the Russians intervened.
Currently, Washington is engaged in conspiracies against Russia, China, and Venezuela. Proclaiming a non-existent "Iranian threat," Washington put US missiles on Russia's border and used the "North Korean threat" to put missiles on China's border. The democratically elected leader of Venezuela is said by Washington to be a dictator, and sanctions have been put on Venezuela to help the small Spanish elite through whom Washington has traditionally ruled South American countries pull off a coup and reestablish US control over Venezuela.
Everyone is a threat: Venezuela, Yemen, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, tribes in Pakistan, Libya, Russia, China, North Korea, but never Washington. The greatest conspiracy theory of our time is that Americans are surrounded by foreign threats. We are not even safe from Venezuela.
The New York Times, the Washington Post, CNN, NPR, and the rest of the presstitutes are quick to debunk as conspiracy theories all explanations that differ from the explanations of the ruling interests that the presstitutes serve.
Yet, as I write and for some nine months to date, the presstitute media has itself been promoting the conspiracy theory that Donald Trump was involved in a conspiracy with the president of Russia and Russian intelligence services to hack the US presidential election and place Trump, a Russian agent, in the White House.
This conspiracy theory has no evidence whatsoever. It doesn't need evidence, because it serves the interests of the military/security complex, the Democratic Party, the neoconservatives, and permits the presstitutes to show lavish devotion to their masters. By endless repetition a lie becomes truth.
There is a conspiracy, and it is against the American people. Their jobs have been offshored in order to enrich the already rich. They have been forced into debt in a futile effort to maintain their living standards. Their effort to stem their decline by electing a president who spoke for them is being subverted before their eyes by an utterly corrupt media and ruling class.
Sooner or later it will dawn on them that there is nothing they can do but violently revolt. Most likely, by the time they reach this conclusion it will be too late. Americans are very slow to escape from the false reality in which they live. Americans are a thoroughly brainwashed people who hold tightly to their false life within The Matrix.
For the gullible and naive who have been brainwashed into believing that any explanation that differs from the officially-blessed one is a conspiracy theory, there are available online long lists of government conspiracies that succeeded in deceiving the people in order that the governments could achieve agendas that the people would have rejected.
If liberty continues to exist on earth, it will not be in the Western world. It will be in Russia and China, countries that emerged out of the opposite and know the value of liberty, and it will be in those South American countries, such as Venezuela, Ecuador, and Bolivia that fight for their sovereignty against American oppression.
Indeed, as historians unconcerned with their careers are beginning to write, the primary lesson in history is that governments deceive their peoples.
Everywhere in the Western world, government is a conspiracy against the people.

"We visited several polling places and that was when we were just so moved by what was going on," said the president of the New York State Nurses Association.
Three representatives from trade unions in New York were among the many international observers to attend the Venezuelan National Constituent Assembly vote July 30 to monitor the election proceedings.
Estela Vazquez the executive vice president of the 1199 SEIU Health Care Workers Union East, the country's largest health care union; John Patafio the vice president of the Transport Workers Union, and Judy Gonzalez a registered nurse and president of the New York State Nurses Association were interviewed by Rosana Silva on their experiences before and after their visit to Venezuela and their thoughts on the ANC.
The three had been invited by the Venezuelan Transport Workers Union to witness the voting process and most importantly to talk to Venezuelans and just "see what's going on."
Prior to arriving in the Bolivarian state, the three were warned by American Airline's crew members of the "dangerous" situation they were walking in to.
"We had a sort of a culture shock on the airplane," explained Gonzales who heads the NY union that includes 40,000 members across the state. "The staff on the airplane was basically hysterical. They told us that we absolutely shouldn't go. We should get back on the plane; don't get off the plane. That if we stepped off the plane we'd be robbed, we'd be kidnapped, we'd be raped, they'd steal our kidneys ... we were absolutely putting ourselves in danger ... they really did scare us."
Vazquez, "But our experience has been different since we arrived Saturday, despite the propaganda of blood running in the streets, and fires and shootings all over the city of Caracas, that was not the case."
"I've been here three days and I have to say, it's propaganda. There's a lot of propaganda and they're taking some instances and they're creating a very powerful message and it's being repeated in very powerful media stations and good people are believing it," agreed Patafio.
The union leaders traveled throughout Caracas unimpeded, visiting polling stations, hospitals, as well as working class sectors.
"I would say that (people) need to come and see for yourselves what is happening in Venezuela. You can not rely on CNN or any other international communication or papers like the New York Times or the Washington Post, because they are only reflecting the story of the ruling classes, the oligarchy of this country, that want to preserve their interests," Vazquez explained.
"They're reflecting the voices of the 1 percent, while 99 percent of the Venezuelans support the process, support their government and they want peace and they want to continue the social gains they have made under the Bolivarian Revolution," Vazquez concluded.
"The few areas where we saw violence, it seemed to be the more middle class areas, and the violence was centered in those areas for a few blocks ... but it was only in those areas," Patafio said, adding that any evidence of "violence was one way," that the videos he saw showed opposition supporters instigating the acts, while the police was pinned with the violence.
"What we did see," Vazquez countered, were thousands arriving to a makeshift polling station erected in the stadium in Caracas. "Thousands of people arriving there from communities in Miranda, because they could not vote in their own neighborhood because the the so-called 'opposition' was practically holding people hostage and preventing them from voting and exercising their right to vote."
"The participation was impressive. So I found surprising when I saw headlines the next day talking of high absenteeism in Venezuela and that is not the truth," Vazquez said.
"The way the voting went, was they divided everybody into sectors. They had workers sectors, they had Indigenous sectors, they had sectors based on your profession or job, they had sectors based on where you lived ... They had hundreds and hundreds of slates, so clearly, there was a race going on," said Gonzalez.
"We visited several polling places and that was when we were just so moved by what was going on. We were just overwhelmed by the number of young people and women who were basically running the vote," she said adding that the transparency of the whole process was incredible.
"I've been through a lot of union elections, I know what to look for when there's cheating, I didn't see any cheating. I saw a very open process; I saw the people that were controlling it, were people from the community, earnest. So, I thought it was fine," Patafio agreed.
"One thing that I did think was significant is that I didn't see any international media. No reporters from the New York Times, no cameras from CNN, no cameras from Fox Television, or any other international media ... covering the poor working class neighborhoods that are the backbone of this revolutionary process in this country," the Health Care Workers Union vice president said.
All three of the representatives were amazed by the care the government had exerted, and attested that the presence and evidence of Chavismo still runs strong, with free or low-cost health care, housing, and transportation continuing to receive financial support from the administration.
"I think there is a crisis, right, an economic crisis and to some degree it needs a political solution and I think the Constituent Assembly is an attempt to find a political solution to a serious economic crisis," Patafio stated.
"(Venezuelans) know what they want and they wanted to determine their own fate. And, for me, self-determination became very clear," he said. "They wanted to make sure that people know that it's peaceful, but they also wanted to make clear that we're going to determine what's going to take place in Venezuela. And they were really holding onto that and that's what I saw at the polling stations."
