Manuscripts from Paul Laurence Dunbar's
Lyrics of Sunshine and Shadow

June 22, 2016 - December 19, 2016
Wright-Dunbar Interpretive Center, 16 S. Williams St., Dayton, OH

Celebrate Paul Laurence Dunbar's 144th birthday by exploring a new mini-exhibit at Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park. See a selection of poem manuscripts from the Paul Laurence Dunbar Papers at the Ohio History Connection that were compiled into Dunbar's Lyrics of Sunshine and Shadow, published in 1905 by Dodd, Mead and Company of New York. Dunbar lived at 219 N. Summit Street (now the Paul Laurence Dunbar House Historic Site) in Dayton when Lyrics of Sunshine and Shadow was published. His health was rapidly declining from tuberculosis, but he continued to write and maintained his creativity until his death in 1906. This mini-exhibit will be on display until December 19, 2016. Manuscripts are courtesy of the Ohio History Connection.

This exhibit is free and open to the public.

From: Daytonians Against War Now On Behalf Of Hilary Lerman
Subject: [DAWN] Demo & Billboard

Demo: DAWN! is scheduling a demo this Saturday, June 25 on the corner of Siebenthaler and Salem at 1pm. With the tragedy at Orlando, many politicians are advocating more military involvement in the Middle East, especially against ISIS. As DAWN! has proven, more military involvement with more civilian casualties creates more jihadists. The only solution is a political one. Come join the effort to stop the military escalation!!

Billboard:
DAWN! has furthered its discussion of a billboard around the time of the election. The concept that we liked was the phrase: NO MORE WAR ON ISLAM with a misty picture of a the VA graveyard. Let us know what you think.

A few hundred thousand here, a few hundred thousand there...:(Lcontributing to the WSU budget crisis!)

(1)
A high-ranking Wright State University administrator is getting paid an extra $60,000 on top of his six-figure salary to direct preparations for the presidential debate the university will host on Sept. 26. In all, Vice President for Planning Robert. J. Sweeney received three stipends in 2015. That brought his compensation to $364,432 and made him the eighth highest paid employee at Wright State, which has raised tuition, cut staff and dipped into reserves because of a budget shortfall.

After First Year

http://files.ctctcdn.com/247971e7001/4fb2acc6-c0b5-4e0b-bbb5-103d7fedb60d.jpg

In October 2015, the Education subcommittee of Welcome Dayton launched a pilot program to put the City's immigrant-friendly vision into action within a local high school.

At the end of the 2015-2016 school year, the results show that Welcome Belmont has been a success in its inaugural year.

By bringing together 10 foreign-born and 10 native-born students together to build community, learn about each others' cultures, and navigate the social and academic landscape of high school, the program has proven that immigrant-friendly attitudes improve life for everyone.
