Subject: Concert benefiting a Nigerian Family - March 12

I wanted to let this group know about an exciting concert we have coming up in a few weeks on March 12 at 7pm at the Beavercreek Church of the Brethren (2659 Dayton-Xenia Rd).

It features Mutual Kumquat, a soul-folk-pop band that brings together sacred and secular music.  This unique group is loved by all ages and all persuasions.  This free family concert will include a free-will offering to benefit a family from Nigeria with three hearing impaired girls.

Please come to the concert and please help us promote it by putting in your bulletins, your newsletters, and on facebook.  You can find it on the Beavercreek Church of the Brethren facebook page.

The Interfaith Forum of Greater Dayton would like to invite you to an educational and thought provoking program: Ending the New Jim Crow

This, coupled with his innate gift of being able to communicate "beyond the walls", has aided him in reaching across generations while endearing him to audiences of all ages, making him much in demand as a speaker, lecturer and preacher. McCorry believes that true faith must be exercised by motion, which has framed his life as an activist and advocate for all people.

I Sit and Sew

by Alice Moore Dunbar-Nelson

I sit and sew-a useless task it seems,
My hands grown tired, my head weighed down with dreams-
The panoply of war, the martial tred of men,
Grim-faced, stern-eyed, gazing beyond the ken
Of lesser souls, whose eyes have not seen Death,
Nor learned to hold their lives but as a breath-
But-I must sit and sew.

You are also invited to read your own poetry or a poem by a favorite poet
or writer or simply listen and enjoy.

From: Dawn Ebron
Subject: Community Health Improvement Plan Update/Implementation Kick-off - March 18 (9 to 10:30)

More than 35 community organizations representing hospitals and healthcare providers, insurance companies, city and county government, law enforcement, fire and rescue, not-for-profits, civic groups, foundations, universities, and local business have been working diligently since July of 2015 to develop the Montgomery County's Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP).

With planning now complete, we are ready to begin Phase 2 Implementation!

We would like everyone who has been involved in the development of the CHIP to hear a summary of the final plan. Each Workgroup will be presenting the final draft of their action plan. Most importantly, we will be sharing the plans for implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the CHIP and will be asking your input regarding organizations and/or resources that would play a significant role in the implementation of the action plans.

When: March 18, 2016  - 9am to 10:30 (bagels, fruit, coffee, and juice will be provided)
Where: Multi-purpose Room 2nd Floor of the Reibold Building

Please join us to find out how your organization can help us realize our vision: Montgomery County: A healthy, safe and thriving community!
There is a role for every organization to play. Please invite other members/leadership in your organization to attend who you think will have a role in implementing the CHIP priority action steps.

Subject: Update on Smoke-Free Bus stops

I know it has only been 9 days since RTA made all bus stops smoke-free. I also understand that all the signs have not gone up.  With that said, I checked with my friends at RTA this morning to see how many complaints they have had and here is the answer:

I checked with our head of security  (he oversees the transit ambassadors) this morning.  He said that we have had NO customers comments about the "Please no smoking," yet.

Subject: Dayton RTA first in Ohio to have smoke-free bus stops

I know you've been watching all the great coverage.  Here is the Ch 7 clip: http://www.whio.com/videos/news/rta-encouraging-people-to-not-smoke-at-bus-stops/vDkfDy/

Below you will find the link to the Mass Transit Magazine!

This has been 3 years in the making.  I presented to the RTA leadership team 3 years ago and challenged them to be the leaders in Ohio.  This week they took that step.  This was perfect example of how pieces can come together.

·         I'm Chairman of the RTA CAG and we voted to make bus stops smoke-free two years ago.

·         CityWide, Dayton Children's Hospital asked PHDMC to be part of the new park across from the hospital. They shared plans to work with the City of Dayton to make new bus shelters to match the park design.

·         We asked RTA if those bus stops could be smoke-free.  The answer was yes.

·         We create a positive sign for the bus stops and asked all key partners to be part of a press conference to celebrate these smoke-free bus stops.

·         When we got the quote from RTA, Mark was using the press conference to announce that all bus stops were smoke-free.

I just heard from RTA and they are VERY pleased with the positive press.

This is so familiar….worksites, parks, universities, communities (tobacco21) are concerned about worst case scenarios. Can I ask you look at our community?  The hospitals, PHDMC and many worksites have tobacco-free policies with next to no pushback.  U.D. moved smoking off main campus with great success.  The City of Dayton started with one park going smoke-free then Oakwood and Kettering went smoke-free and Kettering will tell you their sports teams LOVE it!  Then 13 of the 16 school districts plus the Miami Valley CTC are 100% Tobacco-Free School Districts.
